the house is 3 years old so i'd be surprised if the sighal was that poor that it would create that much static from sky dish its only splitting to 2 tv's. although not hdmi that signal should still be clearer

"the signal still isnt clear - perhaps the signal is weak, how can i test this or is there a cheap booster around?"

The interference, if any , would not be coming from the dish.
Perhaps if you care to elaborate on your post above the picture may become clearer ( pardon the pun ;-))

Channel 25 is analogue TV channel 25.
The TV's analogue tuner needs to be tuned to the same frequency (Channel) as the modulator. If the TV is not tuned correctly the picture will be crap.
It's no different to what you had to do to tune in TV1, TV2 etc when they were still transmitting analogue signals.
The Sky dish signal can only be fed into a Sky or Freeview (or a modern TV with inbuilt satellite tuner) decoder and has no effect on the signal sent to the TV.
