Here is a thread where a Kiwi reports getting Sky Digital working with a CAM emulator and a legit card:

I agree Sky via DVB-S would be tidier but once you have it all set up with SVIDEO and it's all working you tend to forget about it ;)

As usual there is no right answer. If you don't want to tinker a lot, have occasional outages and want to have Sky, then Mysky might be the right answer.

In my situation I don't have Sky but TCL cable. It doesn't make sense for me to switch to Sky since I get the same channels over cable and without two boxes and without a Freeview box (which I do) I can watch on FTA and one encrypted channel at the same time. The homebrew pvr solution (gbpvr) works fine for me.

As an aside, since the pvr is a computer of course, and connected to my 56" RP TV, we can quickly surf the net when in the family room or kitchen. And the box is also a complete media player so I can play media off the server

More fantastic service from Sky.

Phoned a few days back to book the install for next week, and they were fast and knowledgeable and polite.

This afternoon after 4pm, I phoned again to see if I could move the install forward. Was speaking to a human in about 30 seconds, who asked my query, and put me through to someone who answered in 5 seconds.

That person made a new booking straightaway for me, for tomorrow! Took about 2 minutes.

Contractor phoned about 2 hours later to confirm time and requirements...

Well done Sky. A+ so far.

I bet if you wern't paying $600 to them and only requested a STB change for some reason they would be no where near as fast. I had a STB problem early this year. It took them a week to come and change it..

if i remember correctly all the sky contractors get paid regardless of what the callout is for... i'm sure there will be times when they are as busy as hell and slow to respond, and other times when there are contractors waiting for jobs..

I would have to say getting MYSKY has been worth the money. I agree there other ways to do it but I still can't see they are cheaper.

By the time you get the electronic guides sorted and the recording and the playback all going great most people would have spent a number of hours.

As I see it it comes down to one simple difference, you can't get the recorded programs of MYSKY digitally. The only way is to play them out into a recorder.

My decoder is linked to the TV via scart, I sit down hit the power buttin on the MySky decoder and the TV turns on, simple.

I just can't be bothered mucking around at the end of the day!

Hmmm, I have a spare NDS sky card and a "Goldcard" reader/writer, I wonder how "hackable" it is? would be nice to have "all house" sky and/or record from a different channel and not have to pay for two decoders.

Looks to me as though your asking for a visit from SkyNz.
I can see a classic example similar to that made of a certain Whistle blower over the Ditch in Ozz about 12 months ago.
Last i heard hes paying a 2Mill fine, and serving some time.
Your breakthrough is nothing new.. Has been around for 3 years now.. Locally too.

Just a pity its come out public.

My appolgies, I should have just left it well alone.

My intenstions were never finanically motivated I was just wanting to share the pain I had been through to benefit the community instead of being some sort of "I know something you don't so bow down to my greatness", those people are just the worst examples of people in the IT world. And from reading all over the internet there are such ego's in the Sat forums... arrgh it's just pathetic.

All the posts are now gone, so I will leave it up to others to learn as I had to... the hard way. Google is your friend.

The biggest drawback I see with my non-MySky is having two jobs whenever I want to record: setting by Sony HDD recordser to record L1 and setting my Sky Digital to switch to the correct channel. I wish I had gone for My Sky so ... good luck Tony.

In addition, having dual Sky tuners would be a wonderful addition.

As for openmedia's earlier response that because their PVR is easy to transfer to DVD their clients do it ....

My current Sony box is a piece of cake to dub to DVD. That is not the issue. The key here is I NEVER FIND THE NEED TO DO IT.

With 160GB I can record enough to fill in the gaps in broadcasts. I don't file away all the old episodes of Mythbusters, Kath & Kim or anything else to watch on demand. Some do (my sister for example) but if it's not in air or on disk then it aint watched in my house.

As Tony said earlier ... the biggest use I have had for the DVD recorder in my Sony was for keeping stuff for others that can't record it. Bugger 'em I say.

Anyone wanna trade a near-new Sony PVR for a MySky installaion fee !!!!

However many weeks its been now.... I am still very happy with MySky.

Of course there are some down points, heres some...

No synopsis or creating a series recording if both tuners are recording
No audio or windowed video when in the guide or the list of recorded programs (sorely missed MCE feature)
Guide listing titles are cut off a little too short, have to drill down to the synopsis more often than an MCE, as MCE would have mini-synopsis on the guide screen for current selection - MySky doesnt do this.
FF/REW speeds are not fast enough for me!

Alls i can say is "Good on Ya Mate".
Its a pity you didnt put a bit of thought into it before making your postings..
Googles pretty good for Caching.

Many people dont relise the time spent with the Newcs team just so we could get a certain card
running on a certain box downunder, probably well before you became a dreamer.

Its out in the open now.
