Given the discussion over on the Freeview Forum, it might be worth holding fire until you can confirm that the particular model you may be interested in is compatible with the new FreeviewPlus. Always, of course, assuming that FV is of interest to you.

Thanks Jimmy, yeah we still mostly watch Freeview TV, although its through a  dish so any upgrade to the UHF system wouldn't help, I'll have a look at the other thread. cheers

Have had Samsung 4K tv and over all i don't think it worth getting one. Steamed Netflix 4K tvshow fine but i could not really tell that from a 1080p tvshow. I would say get a larger screen then 4K. have 50" and now looking at 65 +

... and how far from the TV do you sit, and what's the suggested distance for being able to resolve a 4K image on a 50" TV? I'm not too surprised that on a 50" TV the 4K "upgrade" doesn't appear worth it.

When we come to replace our 60" plasma (not that I am looking forward to this day arriving), I'd be looking at 4K, but wouldn't bother when replacing the other older (720p!) plasma with a 50" one...

Fair point, but there's (essentially) no 4k content available at the moment, so why jump early before there's a need. Now, if you need/want a new TV NOW (Your old one broke or was stolen) then it's a different story

But delay 4K purchase if you can.

Cheers - N

I dont understand these comments about 4k content. Almost every modern video recording device that comes out now supports creating 4k content. It doesnt matter if it is the latest smart phones (LG G3, Samsung Galaxy line, Sony Z2&3, Nexus 6) or cameras (Pana GH4, Olympus OMD M5, Sony A7, GoPro) . There a lot of affordable options for enthusiast content creators, there will be a lot of content soon.

Plus we now have Netflix with 4k streaming and Youtube with an option to enable 4k content. With Sony and Netflix you have 2 major players creating and pushing 4k.

My biggest issue with 4k right now is my internet speed at home isnt good enough for downloading 4k content yet. But UFB may help soon ;p

You honestly think Netflix 4k is any good? lol. Their 1080p service is well behind blu-ray.

I had been considering holding off based on your comment on FreeviewPlus, but have just looked further into it, you do have to be on UHF freeview to get the streaming service, don't understand why, but it is the case.  We've got some hills in the way so get our Freeview via a dish, so freeviewplus is not an issue for us, unfortunately!

Still looking, only had a brief look last weekend, compared a 65" FHD vs 65" UHD on a SkySport channel, very similar pictures, the UHD was slightly better\clearer.

Thanks to those who contributed, appreciate the comments.

I saw a good deal on a Samsung 65" Curved TV last week, went back for second look and it was discounted even more, it ticked all the boxes so it's now on my wall!

Model UA65HU8700 , its the model down from their flagship HU9000 series range, it allows for future connection to the OneConnect box, if the ports and processor need upgrading some time in the future, seems like a good idea to be able to replace your TVs brain and keep the panel.

Being Samsung it has TVNZ and TV3 on demand which is nice, tried playing some shows and they looked fine (obviously not great resolution but acceptable for catching up on missed programs).  I have managed to get Netflix working with my US account, nice.  Apps for Spotify and Vevo are a bonus.

The smart remote is great, the pointer is good for navigating the menus and it integrates directly to control our DishTV box using the included IR blaster.  Integration through the HT system is good, ARC working.

I was actively avoiding the curved panels, but after sitting in front of one for a few minutes in a store I think they really work, at least in the large panel sizes

More than happy

They'll be clearing stock for the 2015 models that are being released.  Which store did you get yours from?

Yeah figured that was the case with shifting stock for the new arrivals, didn't really want to pay the higher prices when the new stock came out, it was a Harvey Norman outlet store.
