Just had a look there to see what prices were like now... and noticed this...

Man, that's a BARGAIN. I have an AE7000 and it's utterly fantastic in every way (except size I guess, it's not small)

Yup - that's on clearance around quite a few stores... if you walk into stores with it in stock, I'm guessing you could get a deal on the spot.
Having said that, it's WELL outside the OP's price range.
Still, a superb projector.

Make sure you check out the BenQ if you can. I wasn't overly impressed by that model motion wise. Colour / brightness all seemed fine for the price, but it had some real issues dealing with the Art of Flight BluRay.

I guess my problem is that I am in central otago and we have a few limitations in sourcing products for demo.

As such I'm relying on reviews and first hand experiences.

I think I am leaning towards the w1070 on basis of reviews and price. I must admit the deal at av world is comparable to importing costs so I may go with that, the specs also suggest it can hit 100" at 2.5m throw, I'm looking at around 92" at 2.5 as the perfect fit ( due to ceiling fans).

As this is our first step into screens and projectors I still think we will be pretty blown away.

Can't wait now... About 8 weeks to move in..or should I say...opening night and movie in !

It's even less at PB Tech, that's a fantastic price for the PT8000... Wonder if that's on run out? Be three years old now I guess, as a model.

HI I just want to give the guys at AV World in Auckland a thumbs up. I queried some details with them and they responded pretty damn quick and they have been helping me via email to resolve a few more queries. If all good then I will be buying from them later in the week.

Urrgh sorry another question...

At the moment I have multiple sources (Blu ray, media player, skybox) feeding in to my receiver (Marantz) I also have the sky box defaulted as the hdmi pass through source.

the sole hdmi output is heading back to my TV.

Is it best to split this output to both the projector AND the tv ?

does this affect the ARC function at all ?

ALSO ... im thinking if I split the hdmi out of the AVR then run it then convert it to CAT5/6 I could run the image to the projector through my CAT network ?????

is that reasonable...

Honestly, I had assumed you would have looked into this...

What model Marantz amplifier do you have?
A 6 series receiver will mean there's no need for a splitter... but a 5 series or a slimline NR series will mean you'll need to split the signal.

Basically, adding an HDMI splitter will cause havoc with ARC, but an optical cable from the TV to the Marantz will fix this (and it's far less buggy/annoying), especially if you bring a Logitech remote into the equation.
Using your existing Cat5/6 network will work BUT you will require an HBaseT solution.
This will consist of two separate boxes. HDMI into HDBaseT #1 - ethernet out - ethernet into HDBaseT #2 - HDMI out.
If you buy the right HDBaseT solution, you'll only require power at one end (normally by the receiver as it's easier to find a power point there) as many HDBaseT solutions offer POE (power over ethernet).

Yes I know...I know !! bare in mind I only started down the projector route about 1 week ago ! so I am playing catch up and keep ahead of the builders !

I have allowed for Optic out of the TV so that kinda fixes that issue. Its an older Marantz SR5007.

I started out with an HDMI splitter for a Plasma and Projector. It worked.... kinda... needed to be powered down lots, sometimes nothing showed up on either display.

I went to an Amp with dual HDMI out and everything works perfectly.

my other option is that my blu ray has 2 hdmi out I could run the image from the blu ray direct and the sound via the AVR.

that's a fall back.

I'm thinking I might look in to the CAT 5/6 options..

You've got some things confused I think, but are accidentally using the right terminology.

The Cat 5/6 cabling options for HDMI will work, but they don't use ethernet at all, so your existing network won't carry the signals through any active items like a switch. It MIGHT work if you physically patch all the cables together. It's DESIGNED to work with a single (or parallel) CAT5/6 cable(s) from the 2 endpoints.

Use a HDMI splitter and hope you get a good one (There's really no way to tell what will work well without trying) or get an AMP with 2 outputs.

Only just finishing my new build myself,

If you are struggling to prep stuff like cable runs etc I'd concentrate your time on this than what you intend to use, unless you have the majority of equipment already. The reason is you arguably require a lot more time you haven't got to digest a lot of information. So it is easy to get off track only to find you placed something critical in the wrong place, believe me even when you plan with plenty of time it is easy to get something wrong. For HDbaseT I'd be more inclined to terminate Ethernet runs as this allows flexibility for upgrades of the technology with external devices.

Some key points, if you are past gib stopping, ignore the following

Run some conduit for the main audio runs, especially where the main AV unit resides, I used 2 tubes, a 50mm and 40mm. Just a vertical pipes from termination to celling space. The larger is for audio/video(7.1.4) and the other is Ethernet runs(6) and Freeview RG6. I also did the same at the other end of the room for the fronts and centre channel speakers plus another RG6 TV with a loop to the rear for both Ethernet and RG6. The conduit allows me to pull through cables later if I need too. Also protects the wires from trades, like jamming wires in between gib and studs and dwangs, which they love to do btw.

As I mentioned in previous post, for projection it is arguably better to have AV equipment to the side or rear of the room then it is a short run to the projector for video. If you have run reasonable audio lines the lengths won't matter. At the very least run 4 core audio wiring especially for the fronts and centre, pair the 4 core, doubles the pair then.
