Does it support HE-AAC and LATM audio?
If not you'd better be a good lip reader.

i have done some more research into the tuner in the tvix... the chipset in use by the tuner is a xceive XC3028 it supports 6MH and 8MHz DVB-t

see chip-spec - http://www.xceive.com/docs/XC3028_prodbrief.pdf

it supports HE-AAC 2.0.. but couldn't find mentions of the LATM audio..

but the unit plays these video codecs:

Codec : MPEG 1 / 2 / 4, AVI, XVID, WMV9(MP@HL), H.264(BP@L3, MP@4.0 and HP@4.0) , AVC(HD) , VC-1(MP@HL, AP@L3)

and these audio:

MP3, WMA, AAC, Ogg, PCM, M4A, AC3,FLAC, WAV

bah... if it doesn't work lip-sinking parties are on

I just ordered one yesterday. Due to be shipped Feb 04. Have you had many problems with it ?? i.e. over heating in playback, file formats??
At about NZ$280 landed it's a bargin
Did you have to pay anything after it arrive like customs clearanace to DHL or the like as some overseas seemed to have had to do??

I just got a notification that I have 8 days to order one. Anybody else got a notification or has received their's yet? With the dollar so strong at the moment it looks like a no brainer, esepcially as sub notes, it can play the DVB-T broadcasts currently out there.

Yeah I just received the email too.

Hmmm and to think I just convinced my Dad to get a PS3 in a few months for the purpose of viewing his photos on the TVs in the house.. (and for playing mkv files plus the whole PVR thing supposedly happening with the console in a few months).

FYI - the PS3 cannot play MKV files natively. If they are in a AAC/AC-3 format in the MKV container then there is free software out there that can transform the MKV files to vob that the PS3 can play (either natively or via DLNA server)

Hmmm and to think I just convinced my Dad to get a PS3 in a few months for the purpose of viewing his photos on the TVs in the house.. (and for playing mkv files plus the whole PVR thing supposedly happening with the console in a few months).

Very hmm indeed

With the NZD so strong versus the USD and I had only 2 more days to make a purchase decided to get one. Landed it will be about $280(NZ). I like the fact that it can play the DVB-T broadcasts here so I can record the broadcasts with a lowly PC and watch them with this. And if I don't like it, there's always Trademe :)

Whoops - that's a problem. I bought it because sub notes in this thread that he has been able to play the DVB-T broadcasts on his unit. Maybe TV1/2/3 et al haven't finally settled on the format they are going to use?

I haven't been able to play those .ts files on any machine either. Wonder if they have been corrupted?

What were the final landing prices?

How's the playback etc?

Guessing the answering is a resounding no.... - but any testing done on the optional/incorporated DVB-T cards(TVix only)?

Still a $500 brick here in NZ as far as I'm concerned. Still lacks wider codec support though no doubt hacks will come out very soon after it's released..
I'm using one of these: http://www.popcornhour.com/onlinestore/. Its got a silly name but its a very nice device based on the Sigma Designs SMP8635 chipset, and will play just about anything - including files recorded from our H.264 DVB-T broadcasts.

Not sure if I should post this in this forum or in gbpvr but since the device has been discussed here...

I understand that currently gbpvr doesn't playback audio on the NZ DVB-T broadcasts but will be available in the next release. Even though you need a decent video card, Powerdvd h.264 codec and a decent CPU.

Just wondering if you can get around this by using gbpvr to record the DVB-T broadcasts (which is basically just capturing the MPEG4 stream) and then using the Popcorn to play them? I have ordered the Popcorn and that would be a good solution and save having to make major upgrades to my PVR.

PCH landed NZ$282. I'm only using mine at present to play back x264 files from a USB mem stick as I haven't made freinds with the spiders yet and put in a LAN connection to the HT area. When that happens I'll put in a hard disk and do the upgrade. But at the moment. If it ain't broke don't fix..

$NZ282 is awesome for what the PCH offers.

Upon receiving the "order-invitition" email - did you have to order through a specific retail partner for NZ delivery?

Keep us posted on how your experiences progress (good or bad).

What sort of H.264 files are they? Stuff available on the Internet or DVB-T samples from the local test broadcasts? That would be useful to know since I am also waiting for my Popcorn Hour

When you get "The Invatation" there is a link to the google checkout. This doesn't appear in the Google NZ web page so you will have to access google.com >more>even more>checkout. If you don't have a google account you will have to set up one with a credit card so that you can pay for this thing. The rest is pretty explanitory. You can check the progress once the order has been placed and trace the DHL progress when shipped from there..
