while i love these new OLED tvs, its the blu ray movies that destroy these high price tvs for me, having black bars isnt a thing i like!

Just don't know what to say to this...

It's meant to have black bars. it has black bars at the cinema as well, they are just not as easy to see on the screen.

Please don't tell me you watch everything with no black bars. If so probably best not spending $4k on a tv...

It's meant to have black bars. it has black bars at the cinema as well, they are just not as easy to see on the screen.

Please don't tell me you watch everything with no black bars. If so probably best not spending $4k on a tv...

I squish everything to 4:3 as I think it's more slimming for the characters on screen

People obsessing about black bars and the absurdity of 4:3 safe areas is something that ruined TV for a very long time. Have a wide picture but nothing happens at the edges because of people who hate letterboxing. I'm glad that its almost no longer a thing. Then they can start to worry about making things 21:9 safe for those of us that would like to get an ultrawide ;)

Black bars can be solved with more inches.

Like a lot of things.

(viewing distance, etc... gutter-minded people)

Problem is that the TV networks when showing a HD movie that was released in 2.35:1 still insist on using "Zoomovision" to fill the screen removing the side content.. Seems that people (Luddites) prefer to see the entire screen filled rather than in the correct aspect ratio..

Easily solved, don't watch movies shown by TV networks. Forget the aspect ratio crimes, it's the 3 minutes of adverts every 10 minutes that keeps me away. Can't remember the last time I watched a movie on FTA.

Ive got a Sony 55x850c (4K HDR with Android TV) and if I had more money I would go OLED with an Nvidia Shield TV. Android TV on Sony is SLOW. :)

Have you got the latest updates?, because mine is smooth as butter. I don't use FTA TV on it, but all the android bits are quick as. I'm a user of plex, redbull tv, amazon, netflix, and more and have never had a slow response.

same experience, got a 65X8500D and android TV is pretty slow on it. Not really bad, but if you have to do a hard reboot (if a app fails, plex does from time to time) etc, it takes ages to turn on.

So yeah, my Mi box is way quicker. and forget about gaming on a 65X8500D android tv, way to slow for that.

True. I just used to record them all and fast forward but the lack of correct aspect ratio and the speeding up and compressing the final credits was the last straw. Like you I haven't watched on for a couple of years..

I agree with waikariboy, removing/hiding the black bars is one of the reasons I converted to movie watching using a projector and a scope screen. If movie watching is your main focus, a TV's aspect ration is not great.

Pretty much... I know I got the last 4K Sony mid-range 3D TV with the x8500C. I *think* some of the top-end might still do it though.
