I beleive its mostly a 1 way service, you receive the beams and the stb decrypts them and shows them. For pay per view etc its sent down the phone line.
I cant see how they would even know?

I think some people get a little pedantic about T&C's. Use some common sense and you will be fine. I dont think Sky is going to drag you before the courts for decoding two streams with dual tuners.

IMHO - comparing using dual tuners to card sharing is not even in the same league. Or perhaps I am wrong? Would be interesting to hear what others think (poll?) Personally I think paying an additional $25 a month is excessive to view something you have already bought the priviledge to watch.

We dont have the phone line set up, yet have been able to watch PPV before. It seemed the sky box would let you watch a couple of PPV before demanding the phone line. Not sure if they still allow that though.

I dont even have a telecom phoneline anymore to plug my sky box into anymore. TelstraClear cable FTW!.
A friend of mine has not had his stb plugged into his telephone for "ages" (not sure how long ages is but sounds like a while).

Anybody know if sky will connect you up if you tell them you do not have a home phoneline? I remember a while ago talking to a TelstraClear salesman who said that they could not offer me a TelstraClear cable tv service unless I also took a phone line and was told it was a term of skys (on TC) which allowed them to onsell their service. Not sure if this is the truth?

Mums was never connected to a phoneline. the guy was really wanting to because they get paid less if theres no phone connection or something.

PPV has to be ordered over the phone manually. But it gets authed within a few seconds of the phone thing happening.

Sky can be hooked up if there is no phoneline on the premises, however obviously Sky to prefer a phoneline for PPV and so the box can phone home.

As for TCL it used to be a requirement to have a phoneline to get TV but this is no longer the case. You can't get TV by itself but you can get it bundled just with cable internet without a requirement for a phoneline.

Looking back, I don't believe a single person has said that SKY would cancel an account for not using an STB.

One person did say they might if you refused them access to your home, but thats a bit different.

The general theme here has been that most thread participants agree that SKY would probably not be the happiest about this occurring.

This is the most sensible post I've seen on this subject so far.

Enthusiasts on forums like this are pedantic by nature. I guess that's what makes one an enthusiast in the first place. But reality also needs to be kept sight of.

Common sense tells me that Sky would not be overly worried if I was decoding two channels on the same TV from the one subscription. I see this as a limitation of the hardware, not a limitation that Sky is enforcing. This is afterall what My Sky offers, and it was confirmed in an earlier post that this is done at the same subscription level as for a non My Sky STB.

Common sense also tells me that Sky would be greatly concerned if I was decoding two channels for two different households from the one subscription. It's kinda obvious...

Just been able to confirm that the blue sky cards work but the gold cards do not. Not sure when the change occurred but the old STBs also only have a 9 digit STB serial number where at least the mySky STB is a 10 digit STB like the UK ones. Whether this is why the old STBs don't work or not I'm not sure.

If you want to replicate this you'll see that the gold cars are detected as UNKNOWN while the blue cards are listed as being NDS.

One thing that has not been stated so far is that the blue cards SHOULD also work with just a straight CAM setup with the likes of Mediaportal; although this would mean that you would need one card per tuner.

Yes this is correct the blue cards do work in a dreambox, the gold ones dont. Im not sure about the blue cards and needing a phone line though i have have by gold card for 6 years and my sky box hasnt been plugged into a phone line ever without issue. Are the blue cards the same ?

I wonder whether Mysky HDi will use a different card, or use one of the newer ones?
And will the encryption be the same?

If its the same card, maybe a HVR-4000 could be worth getting. (in the hope that it could possibly work)

I have just spent a very long day with my DM7000 which I have had for around 6 years now and I used to consider myself an advanced user at one stage (until now!). I have been trying to get my blue sub card to work, it has completely stumped me. Anyone able to assist? I am starting to think my blue card is just not readable with my DM7000. I have been mainly focusing on CCcam as thats where my research has led me. Any clues appreciated.

It would be great if someone had the time to experiment with this on Mediaportal. I would consider but we have a gold card.
