So Sony have not responded to my correspondence on this support ticket. Last I heard, engineers were looking into it. I requested a follow-up/update on 19 August and again on 10 September. No reply.

I will make a prediction: in the next firmware update, this issue will not be fixed. But the bug in the API that enables Network Standby on EU models (against EU regulations) will be plugged.

grolschie: Wow! Thanks for that. That's high. I'm a bit confused by some of your tests. Did you test "Network Standby" or was it "HDMI Passthrough"?

Edit: sorry, I see you are using the EU version which doesn't have Network Standby. Lenat, if you have an Android phone/tablet, I can PM you a free code to my StrRemote Pro app, which can enable this on your EU receiver. Let me know please.

Thanks for the offer, I'm actually not missing it, but I'll keep that in my mind.

Batman: thanks. what's the temperature at 0.1 and 1W respectively? i have a temperature gun but no power meter.

Normally I have only Bluetooth mode receiver / Bluetooth Standby on (to wake, control and shut down the receiver over Music Center app) and as 1.0W consumption doesn't produce any noticable heat emission, I didn't measure the temp within first tests.
I will measure it for tests nr. 1 and nr. 2 within this week.

ok thanks.

something is very wrong with the NZ models.

I turned everything off that I could find. and it still produces a lot of heat. I've actually unplugged the unit now as I hardly turn it on.

It's also the EU models, when enabling Network Standby via the Sony Audio Control API. I'd suggest people contact Sony - the squeaky wheel gets the grease, etc.

Hi. Did you manage to measure the power consumption? Heat isn't really a problem I'm experiencing, but high power consumption on Network Standby.

Hey all. I'm also keen to get to the bottom of this.

I have the Australian model and it was running quite hot in standby. I disabled a few things, including network standby, and it runs cool now in standby. But its annoying that it takes a while for Chromecast and Spotify connect to become available after I turn it on, so would be great if Sony could figure out a resolution.

Electricity prices in Aus are pretty steep, and so if this thing is running ~30W in standby it will be costing me about $20 per quarter just for that one device, even if I don't use it! Considering my Chromecast uses 5W (runs off a phone charger) in full use, it seems silly that it needs this much juice just to keep an eye on the network.

Sony tech support no longer respond to my queries on this ticket. Their only solution it seems was to remove the 1.5w specification from the NZ website, apparently.

Judging by the abysmal tech support on a major fault with this receiver, I seriously doubt a fix will be forthcoming. I hope Google searches inform future buyers: caveat emptor. Just my personal opinion...
