I love my Pioneer Plasma! I have a PDP506 which is getting older now but IMHO the picture quality of HD content or high bitrate DVD's on this screen is absolutely stunning. It certainly leaves any LCD in the marketplace for dead, particularly the Sony's which IMHO are simply rubbish performance wise and yet people buy them because they seem to associate with the Sony brand being a market leader.

Unfortunately Pioneer aren't making their own panels any longer, current stock in NZ is still their own panels but all new TV's will have Panasonic panels (if they do keep importing them into NZ) so they will be one and the same!

Thanks Steve, was not aware... and I was also mixing Plasma and LCD. Pioneer 50 1080p panel used to be a benchmark others would strive to reach.

Is the panel the determining feature or have the electronics in the Pioneer units had an edge over those used by other firms. If it is the panel what has happened to the factory producing the panels; closed done? sold to Panasonic? I doubt if an investment of the size would be just sitting there doing nothing.

So much to learn, so little time.
