Handle9: I have no idea what they sound like but, being somewhat diplomatic, those things are fugly!

I heard them once and let's just say (not necessarily saying I'd instantly buy them) I remembered the sound. Alas, the wife also doesn't like the looks much so it's a "no" for that and other more sensible reasons haha.

Just to update this topic. I final ended up getting a set of Presonus Eris 4.5s which just fit on my desk below my monitors. The size limitation was a bit of a pain but the vast majority of my listening is nearfield at very moderate volumes.

They don't have the ability to stream and only really have one input but other than that I'm very happy with them. One thing I really like about them is they have front mounted controls, which is great.

They don't have the biggest bass or even midrange but the clarity really stands out. I'm picking up a lot of detail and a nice soundstage which I'm enjoying.

FWIW I really like my LSX but I have had to have them repaired under warranty this year and my retailer said he had now had a few people with the same issue as me on them and he would be raising it with KEF/Reseller...

Waiting on a Schiit Modi to arrive. It will be interesting to do some A/B testing.

I doubt I have good enough ears or speakers to really get the most out of it but I figure it's the sort of thing that is always useful to have and can be repurposed if things change.

So the Modi 3+ arrived today. I was half expecting not to hear a significant difference but was very pleasantly surprised. It could be placebo effect but it really seems to have improved the clarity and sound stage further. To reuse an overworked pun the Modi is some pretty good Schiit.

Is the issue the buzz/humm when using an analogue source?

No - my master speaker just died! It would switch on and you could still connect and change settings etc, but the Master flashed a red status light and no audio would come out. The slave speaker still worked fine, so assume it was something in the amplification chain that died...

It did get fixed under warranty, though took longer than I would have liked.
