That must be the S series. If it wasn't labelled as such, then they made a mistake. Up here in Akld the 50" S was 2999 last weekend, and the G was 900 more. Also up here, with JB Hi-Fi listing the G at 3619, and considering the discount you can get for cash, that's a pretty damn good price for vision quality that can only be matched by a pioneer plasma retailing for about the same price as a trip to the moon.
Any chance of getting a pic of that price? Or a written quote?? HN Tauranga, last weekend, had the 50" g10 on special for $4196. Are HN in the practice of doing shop-only specials on their latest models?
HN CHCH had a sale on (yet again !!!) for 5 days for TV's, ending last Monday. Each store seems to set there own prices. Will see if I can scan the inv tomorrow and get in a reply.
That'd be great thanks. There's no reason any other HN couldn't match that for cash, I'd presume any price they get from panasonic would be for HN nationwide - sounds good in theory anyhow!
Each Harvey Norman store is an individual franchise (and even within the store typically furniture and electrical are different stores) so there are plenty of differences in pricing.
Where is the G10 manufactured? In the past Panasonic have had different source countries for their different model levels. As for HN, I haven't bought anything major from them after being called a liar for quoting a cash price from a rival retailer (I returned and produced a receipt after going back and buying from rival to prove my point). Message for salespeople, even if the price appears unbelievable, don't call the customer a liar, just say you can't match it.

Interesting, I just called the Main North Rd harvey norman in Chch, and they could only match JB Hi Fi's price of 3619. And with regards to the one in central Chch, they said that while its list price was 4499, the price 'in store' was significantly less, but that it was against store policy to talk prices over the phone. And they also said they didn't have anything but perhaps a floor model in stock yet. So the 2991 you mentioned still baffles me.
Oh, and I do not like Harvey Norman's people at all. Have not had fun dealing with them in the past. I just happen to like their range of models and the way they display them.
Never knew harvey norman was a franchise... My mate actually just bought a 50" g10 from them yesterday, should be delivered monday, let you guys know how it looks once I've finished with it :) Under 3k does seem very unlikely but I've seen my fair share of random massive undercuts so not impossible, and also a very good deal.

I didn't realise they were a franchise either. But isn't one benefit of a franchise having the large (wholesale) buying power to get things at a good (wholesale) price? Obviously their catalogue prices are the same nationwide, therefore you should expect that their bottom cash dollar should be relatively close to another HN store. I really wonder how much overheads factor on a single item between differing store prices - it would hardly be the differences we're discussing here would it?
So sam - did your mate pay cash, and if so get a decent discount? Also, out of curiousity, not that I care - is it made in China or Japan???
My pet peeve with HN is their SHOUTING ad's, them and Rebel Sport - drive me freakin insane. On a whiteware deal a few years ago they were ridiculously expensive, but they do have a lot of display stock, and the comments I've been reading do indicate that they are reasonably negotiable for cash. I haven't had the luxury of the cash haggling on something like this for a while, so it'll be an interesting experience.
For our stores, prices are pretty consistent, you might get one manager who's more keen for a sale than another but generally you won't get more than $50 discrepancy. OoOooooo so it's true. a 50" g10 for under 3000. Was it display or anything of that sort? My friend got his for 3700, which at the time I thought was good considering wholesale is meant to be 3600. He just told me he paid credit card. I'll look for a "made in ___" sticker when i go set it up, though that could just be where it was assembled, panels could come from anywhere.
