Which panel? PLASMA or LCD?

I've bought a TH-50G10Z for myself as a christmas present

and I can comment that 24p performance (to my eyes anyway) is silky smooth.

I'm using a HTPC with an Nvidia 9600GT videocard and blu-ray drive via a DVI-HDMI cable. I manually set the video output to 24p and use arcsofts Total Media Theatre (TMT) as my player.

Having said that, setting the computer to 24p is strictly only for blu-ray playback (24p content) because everything else looks terrible. I mean the mouse kind of skips around the screen and if I forget to change it back to 50hz then play freeview HD (via Mediaportal) I quickly realise what I've done!!

ps. Am I missing out on much not having THX certification, like the V model gives you?

pps. Did a visual compare between playback at 24p; 50p and 60p for blu ray. Here are my findings:

50p produces the worst motion flow. There is a noticeable delayed judder in significant camera pans. So I'm going to theorise that the original 24p frames are not doing 2:2 pull-down (resulting in a movie that is slightly sped-up) but rather 2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:3 pull-down

60p looks better than 50p, and again I'm going to theorise it is doing 2:3 pulldown so the result is a more consistent judder. Certainly when comparing the same camera pan it does not look smooth, but nor does it smack you in the face with the sudden extra frame that seems to come out of nowhere in 50p

24p looks by far the best. pans look so fluid, I can't believe what I've been missing out on for all these years! My conclusion, 24p is not just a marketing ploy, it makes a real difference, assuming it has been implemented well by the TV, which in this case it definately has!

Lastly, did some more web research on the TH-P50G10Z and as far as I can tell, 24P is actually handled at 96hz. This does not come from an official source, but from this thread:

Search on 24p. The thread is about the U.S. model TC-P50G10 which has different specs but an Australian poster seems to have found info on our specs. Most notably, they get THX, but only 48hz or 60hz for 24p sources, so all things being equal, I'd say we get the better end of the stick for this model if watching blu-ray movies is a big thing for you
