Well, I now have a 50" V10 thats being delivered on Saturday. Lets hope it was a wise purchase :D

lookie here: i used to own an LCD panel and 4 years later (last year) bought a full HD plasma.

i will predict this: you will be so blown away (actually you need a full HD feed eg at least well upscaled DVD, or TV3 HD feed or freeview demo channel at min) you socks and hats will explode and you'd be glued to it and all your relationships will fall apart. in fact might as well call the ambulance around the delivery time ... !

I dont have any HD players of my own at the moment, but these will be coming once the partner forgets how much I spent on the TV, eek.

with the PS3 and decent bluray movie - yeah get the ambulance i'd say. go hire eg dark knight and make sure you have HDMI cable! your partner forget costs? you'd do well not to forget the partner! ok perhaps you'll both enjoy together - not all venus species do though - "ugh what's the difference? (comparing 50" plasma with 15" laptop)"

Haha will defo have to get something epic. Although may be hectic as it gets delivered the same day we move into our first home.

She was okay at 42" but still thinks 50" may be a bit big.

No way mate, you made the right call going with 50" In fact once you get used to it you'll even start wondering about a 54 or 58 inch panel.

Anyway, just make sure you get a suitable chick flick (or whatever she's into) and then she'll realise what a great purchase it was -and a new house to go with it!!!

Hahaha true that.

Funny thing is that I also ordered a new gaming PC, and that came with a 24" Widescreen, going from a 17". At first I was like woah! now Im like, sweet!!

In the words of the Mitre 10 Mega guy - "big is good". I recently went from a 26" HD Ready panel to a 37" Full HD panel, and wow. I'd go larger, but this one is exactly the size of my only available wall in my room.

The PS3 quality is awesome (except that the room heats up enough to cause artifacts. Grr!) Bluray quality (watched Star Trek and District 9) is absolutely astronomical. Even non-HD stuff looks better (I assume it's the effect of a TV with a better scaler built in). And I get blown away every time Sky shows that 5 minute ad for Avatar. No seriously, an ad.

I have the G10 50" and its great - so I think you should be well pleased with your V10.

You will probably be a overawed by the size of the 50" when it arrives (if you have had a much smaller screen up to now), but I guarantee within 24-48 hours you will be pleased you didn't go smaller.

Regarding use of Plasmas for gaming, image retension or the fabled burn in is still a real possibility, and also a fact with LCD based panels aswell.

It has all to do with the decay life of the Plasma cells or LCD pixels.
These cells/pixels/backlights decay in the form of a halflife, where the life span, rate hours is the point where the panel will iluminate at half the brightness from new state.
The catch is it the decay is not linear, the rate of decay is generally a log shaped curve, this is the important fact...

During the first couple of hundred hours is the make or break area of a panels life where the damage can be done...that is more noticable.
The reason is that the decay during the first couple of hundred hours is near virtical decline.
Hence all panels require a breakin period before settling has occured, aprox 100~200 hours use.

It is advisable to run in all panels with full screen images(ideally a full screen raster) where there is NO writting or black bars at all for this period.

Plasmas are still far more effected than LCD, for this reason alone LCD based panels are better for gaming purposes.
Gaming tends to drive colours full range in small areas, like HUDs/ naming etc at full luminance and ndark areas which tend to clip the black, non luminated; where as movies tend towards 50~60% average picture brightness as you tend not to have full contrast efffects in one image.
Pixels or cells age faster when they are full luminance vs black no luminance.
