Thread bump: Hello :) My TV is going really well and I'm quite happy with it. I upgraded my machine last month which necessitated a reinstallation of Windows XP. I installed all the Service Packs etc and installed the Samsung PC Share Manager software, along with all my other apps. However, starting earlier this week when I load the Samsung share software, I get the error in "error 1" below (what the hell does that say??) Pressing OK repeatedly eventually gives me the error in "error 2", and some of the error is in "error 3". I've also included the (Notepad file) text with the error. I have to say the Samsung PC Share Manager software must be the most buggy, unreliable POS software I have ever come across. The only good thing is it indexes all my files really fast and just jumps into the folder with all my files extremely quickly.
As a compromise, I'm trying the "PS3 Media Server" application and it works okay, but the indexing of files is incredibly slow - takes over a minute, whereas the Samsung software would just load it in mere seconds.
Anyone able to help here? Anybody got this error before? I would prefer to get the Samsung software working again, because while it's buggy, when it works it works really well. I would Google the error but it's not like I've got any text I can Google for :(
I'm trying the PS3 Media sharing thing at the moment. Seems okay, but the Samsung one loaded so much more quickly. It seems the Samsung application made an index file or something which the TV reads and boom! the whole library is there. The PS3 Media one works too, but it can take 2-3 minutes just to look at a folder, then go into another one is another 2-3 minutes...which isn't ideal. Also (can't be sure on this one tho) I think the Samsung one supported more codecs - unless that's something that's in the TV itself. Dunnersfella - can you recommend one (maybe out of your list there) that's easy to use, easy to setup, and is compatible with my TV? Happy to try any software to see what happens...but waiting 6 minutes just to look at a folder is a bit ridiculous.
I tried TVersity tonight. Works quite well, only issue is I can't use the pause/play/fast forward buttons on my TV remote now. So the hunt continues. I'll give your suggestions a try, cheers :)
I've just ditched Samsung PC Share Manager and bought a WD TV Live for $119 at Noel Leeming. Much better. I got sick of not being able to rewind properly. Already had one in the bedroom so I knew what I was buying. Love them, especially at that price.
Yes my bedroom one is wireless*. Streams video well from one side of the house to the other. The new one is connected via an ethernet cable. Doesn't seem to make much difference in terms of quality etc.
With that one (which is the one I have) you stream it from your PC. You can pay more for the model with a hard-drive built in. Or you can simply use an external hard drive. But easier to just set it up as I have, then you don't have to keep updating the additional hard-drive.
No, it comes with it's own remote. I use a Harmomy universal remote and that works with everything.
Okay, cool. Thanks for explaining that. I should add I purchased a Samsung wireless dongle specifically for this TV - with your device above, the dongle would redundant, right?
What does the dongle allow you to do - use the installed apps on the tv like YouTube, Facebook etc? Does the Samsung dongle not allow you to stream from the PC (via Samsung's "PC Share Manager" programme and your new wireless router)?
