Talkiet:

I finally narrowed it down to a Panasonic 54V series (2d) or 50VT (3d) and after seeing them both side by side went for the 50VT based on the fact it's a little newer and everything I have read seems to indicate 3d TVs do a better job of 2d as well.

Unfortunately the VT has problems with 50Hz signals. Panasonic in the UK have stated that the TV is optimised for 3D/blu-ray and that there will be no updates to address the 50Hz problems.

Whether or not this will bother you, will ultimately come down to the type of programing you watch. If you watch lots of broadcast sports, then you'll likely have less satisfaction than if you watch lots of blu-rays and gaming.

The 54" V10 would have had its own set of problems to deal with (namely black level depreciation).
There is no perfect TV unfortnately.

The 'issues' that the people on AVForums experience seem to be so out of the ordinary it makes me wonder if they all sit 30 inches from their screens and ignore the show plot, in order to assess the picture performance...

There is nothing to debate. Panasonic have acknowledged themselves that there are design decisions that impact 50Hz performance. The black level rise issue is no different. Its there and the manufacturer acknowledges it and calls it a 'feature'.

Whether you see it or not is an entirely different matter...

It's an outside chance...
But it's super thin, super trick - and often super expensive. But I did see it specialed off at around 4k some time ago. VERY thin and the wireless box is pretty cool to boot.
Little obscure though?

Nothing like pouring a big helping of petrol on a smoldering fire!Smile

But these problems with the pana's would be less of an issue than Samsungs buzzing, even though Samsung say they don't have a buzzing problem.

I agree some TV's aren't what they used to be, but sometimes we do need to harden the %@#* up!

Now all I need to do is get a refund from Harvey Norman for the Samsung...

Why would you buy another TV without getting the current TV refunded?Undecided Did you want them both in your home to compare?
Or did you buy it from DSE? lol

Its not my motivation to piss on anyones parade.

The more informed people are at the start of ownership, the sooner they can settle any potential dealbreakers. Taking a product back within an early grace period is easier than going through the DT.

HN had agreed to the refund but we weren't able to arrange a time for them to collect over the weekend and they couldn't process the refund until after they had picked up the unit.

All sorted now.

Cheers - N
