Question is: can YOU manage to set one up well? :)

I currently have a 42" LCD, dvd player, surround sound system, Wii and playstation2 and cant even get them all hooked up right!

Especially the dvd player/tv and surround sound system.

I have tried many times to hook this up and even looked around for someone to pay to do it but havent had any luck yet.

I would have no hope in setting up a remote :)

I am not totally electronically devoid of knowledge, I can build a computer from scratch etc, but these surround sound systems etc have me stuffed.

timmmay: I'd quite like to work out how to set the volume, but that will probably mean some messing around with volume up and down commands.

Just keep in the back of your mind that the harmony doesn't know what volume the TV is currently set at, so it can't move it to a certain volume unless your TV has discrete commands to set it half way or something, which as far as I know none have. Your best bet is to ensure all the devices themselves output a volume that means you can roughly leave the TV at the same volume place as you switch between each input.

Yeah, i'd have to turn it to zero then back up, if I can be bothered working it out, but I don't think it's worth the time.

Are you talking about your TV or your receiver? You might find your receiver has other commands too. I know my Denon has some discrete volume commands (-40db, -20db, etc).

My receiver, an Onkyo.

Overall i'm liking the Harmony One, but the PS3 control (via the Logitech IR to Bluetooth converter) is really laggy. Sometimes it can take 3 seconds between when I hit pause on remote and when it actually pauses, I think that's when the remote is asleep. When it's awake and working it takes 200-600ms to navigate menus say to find a TV show to watch, whereas the PS remote is practically instant. So it's handy, but at times a little frustrating.

Controlling other devices is fine - slightly slower than the native remotes but not bad.

I hav an Onkyo too (608), as well as PS3 and the harmony adaptor. My Harmony One seems to be just as quick as the native PS3 remote. Perhaps a tiny delay, but nothing I could swear to as a difference. Overall the PS3 adaptor works brilliantly and the keys on the One are much better than the 785...

I've certainly never had anything like a 3 second delay for any command input...

The harmony software assumes some pretty conservative delays for signal sending - if you are finding other devices a bit slow then you should probably dig into it and adjust the settings... I can't remember exactly how, but I did this a while ago with my 785 and I was able to improve things ... Perhaps these customised settings came through to the Harmony One?

3 seconds is when it wakes up from sleep, or something. When it's in use it's probably around 1/4 of a second to move around the menus on the PS3.

The delay's set to zero, but I can't work out how to change the repeat. Are there any other tricks I can try?

I didn't know the remote 'went to sleep' anyway though. I know my lights go off etc but it's not like I have to wait. When I pick it up it turns the lights on and is good to go straight away, so I'm another in the 'I don't have that' with my PS3 control.

I'm an Onkyo receiver too, but that's not important I guess with controlling the PS3 direct. Mine is a bit laggy when scrolling up and down huge music lists etc when compared to the hand held game controller, but even still it's nothing I can't live with.

If I push a button without picking it up first it can take a while to do anything. It's ok though, I hope Logitech support can help speed things up a bit. It's a lot slower than the native PS3 remote, usable just a little annoying at times.
