The SXRDs are good sets... apart from the normal rear projector drawbacks its an excellent TV
Obviously its awesome on HDTV and does a damned good job on DVD...
As for SDTV it again does a good job for the size at least

And as far as value for money goes the 3LCD Bravia Rear projectors cant be overlooked

But if money is no object hell grab the 60" SXRD

Sony screwed up with their plasmas; the failure of which can almost be directly blamed on the horrible Fujitsu panels that they chose to go with...

A lot of manufacturers are pushing LCD is because its a lot easier for them... They can do whatever size they please (within reason) with out having to retool their factories or having to have two factories...

Where as Panasonic make both LCD for the smaller sizes and Plasma for the bigger sizes; which requires you to run two production lines... As you could imagine not everyone has that kind of money to run two factories; make a good product and a profit...

Why do right thing, when you can half arse it and just brainwash people?

I was originally going to get a 50" Samsung Plasma but after looking at these new Sony's I think I might opt for the 55" rear pro Bravia. Noel Leeming actually have the older model Grand Wega 50" on special for $2699 at present - do you have any comments between the newer and older models? I also struggled getting a decent PC picture on the Samsung while playing with it instore and it doesn't support using the HDMI for PC input.

Side by side in a darkened room the new Sony looked very nice, particularly on SD pictures. At the end of the day this is what most of us are going to be spending time watching for the forseeable future and it has the advantage of being $2k cheaper than the Plasma..and uses less power! :-)

From what I have been reading, any HDTV should support PC input via the HDMI input so long as your video card produces the correct signal. There are various models of the ATI Radeon cards and Nvidia cards that have drivers so that the DVI output of the cards is in HDTV format - that is 720p or 1080i and as well have settings to overcome overscan issues with TV's.

That being said I still haven't been able to get a PC signal on my JVC via HDMI. The screen flickers briefly when the connection is made and displays 720P in the top right hand corner of the screen and then blanks out. I hope this will be fixed via a firmware upgrade to the set happening this week.

Not a huge difference between the older Grand Wega RP LCD and the news ones except that they are a bit smaller and have digital inputs. Once again since we don't know if Sky is going to enforce HDCP on their transmissions of HD in 2008(?) that is probably the only issue for those sets. You can do PC on those sets via the PC Input (though I think it's limited to 1024x768) or with some of the newer ATI Radeon cards (the X1300 comes to mind) that can output a HDTV signal via component using a special adapter (looks like s-video but has more pins) on the card terminating in 3 RCA jacks.

Pretty much the same to be honest; but with the new 50" you get a RDRHX720 160Gb DVD Rec via redemption; so for an extra $300 you get a DVD recorder that would normally set you have $700
The 55" you get a RDRHX910 250Gb
The 42" you only get a RDRHX220 DVD Rec

So just on that redemption I would go for the new models...
So yeah $3050 for a new model 50" leaves the retailer about 15% which they should be able to do easily; if not look elsewhere
