lumberg: http://www.avalon.co.nz/two-channel-receivers/140-onkyo-tx-nr509.html Thats got 4 Hdmi Shld Do the Job

Thanks for that. I actually wanted the whole system for five hundy, not just the reciever.

Hoepwever, going to that website I saw this
http://www.avalon.co.nz/htib-sets/198-onkyo-htx22hdx.html

A budget 2.1 receiver speaker combo with 3 hdmi inputs for only 299. I figured I could easily get the remaining surrounds for less than 200, so would bring me in under 500.

All good, so I went to Avalon to have a listen. It sounded pretty good.
But whilst there I saw this
http://www.avalon.co.nz/htib-sets/204-onkyo-hts6505.html

Reduced down to 699 from 1000. Website still says 1000 but this price was for the last three in the shop. Its a better version of the one jb hifi has for 777. It has six hdmi inputs and a whole bunch of other cool stuff, so I bit the bullet and bought it.
Yes it was over my 500 dollar budget. But is feature packed and better than anything else around for 700 by a country mile.

I got the guy to split the payment over 2 cards so I could show the wife an eftpos receipt for 350. Hahahah

Setting it up tonight......

Got it home and setup. Wife never asked how much it was (phew). Pretty sweet so far, although I will need to get some longer speaker cables to get an ideal setup.

What are some good movies that demo the benefits of a good 5.1 system?

transformers
hansel and Gretel
a team

(just trying to recall shows that give more than 1% sound out the rears - most movies are 98% sound from fronts which includes 80-90% of sound from centre channel)

Good bargain, it's always a bonus when the importer will undercut the retailers - bargain ahoy!

Saving Private Ryan. Or at least the opening scenes of it. Definitely uses surround.
