wreck90: I've just had mysky hd installed.

I think I've been misled a lot by their customer services.

They said, that for $10 a month I would receive sky movies 1, sky movies great , and the sky sports in HD.

But, now, I find out, that you also need to subscribe to packages that contain those channels too.

$10 / month only gives you the ability to access HD on select channels that you already pay for.

I'm pissed off now, the CSR miscommunicated the details to me.

SO, to get the full hd lot, you have to subscribe to HD, sky sports, and sky movies. Blahh!

Yeah, I thought even their written promotions seemed deliberately obtuse in this area and were likely to catch some people out.

You would likely have grounds for a refund but I guess it will be a hard thing to give back anyway.

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. I did wonder why multiroom setups were in effect receiving extra channels for Zip. Silly Me.

Bright side is that HD was purchased for sports and the HD shows on TV3. The movie channels were regarded as a bonus.

Now all I need is for the weather to clear for a little while so that the installer, who is stuck on the other side of a slip, can deliver today. Interestingly he has received no training so I am going to be the Guinea pig.

So much to learn, so little time.

cyril7: Just checking the lattest Skywatch and less than 50% of SS1 is HD, all the live important stuff is, but only a portion of replayed stuff. As for movies, tomorrow/friday, only 6 movies between SM1 and SMG are HD, rest are SD. Thats, Blades of Glory, Flight93, Knockedup, Consprircy Theory, Edward Scissorhands, Behind Eneny Lines, so not a full evening of HD at all.

There is more than that. I caught Spiderman 3 this morning and that certainly was HD. It seems SKY haven't quite got things sorted in terms of flags in the EPG for native HD programming - yesterday for example "The Messengers" was indicated as HD but was not however most of the other movies indicated in the EPG (in the textual synopsis) as HD have been so. I notice that when they are upscaling movies there is a small border around the picture which most people probably wouldn't see due to overscan in their display.

I'm fairly happy with the box overall but with one major caveat - I'm not too impressed with the handling of SD material. When set to Auto/1080i the HDi upscales the SD content however it doesn't do a very good job compared to my display and when set to passthrough I have problems with the picture being fixed at 16:9 ignoring the settings to pillarbox 4:3 content.

It seems that the sport channels are showing the blue HD symbol in the top bar and the movie channels indicating HD in the text synopsis. I see the EPG has a separate section for HD programmes and there are plenty of movies listed there. All 4 Leathal Weapons are showing in the next 24 hour so it will be interesting to see how good they are.

The decision to choose 1080i over 720p for sports was based on a focus group!......My God!

cyril7: I have heard from other sources that the dual simese cable is not ready nor the new LNBs, all current HD transmissions are off D1 as D3 is still in a hanger in Virginia and slated for launch in early 2009. So at this point there is no need for LNB or cabling upgrade, however from next month all HDi installs and all visited subscribers will be upgraded to a new LNB and 2 or 3 outputs leads.

Does that mean no tinkering with the satellite?? That would be good for people in the North Island as there hopefully wont be delays because the way the weather looks atm the Sky technicians wont go anywhere near the roof.

May require some experimentation to see whether your display or the HDi does the better de-interlacing and scaling. Probably the display.

If the above article is correct then Sky will be outputting 720p (on sport) if that's how the content is given to them so you might want to take advantage of that on some displays e.g I'd want to put that straight into my 720 res. projector

Ok so not the last comment.

I only had one of my two MySky boxes upgraded and now on the original MySky unit I can't get any of the channels that are in HD. Has anyone else found this or has Sky just stuffed up?

Only noticed when I got kicked into the other room which is normally only ever on Cartoon Network for the kids. Also no point in upgrading this one as the TV can't do HD, and we only record rubbish for the kids.

Tried ringing Sky and waited for 20 mins and gave up waiting. Will try again in the morning.

The cricket from Sky Sport UK (shown on Sky Sport 2 currently) looks stunning in HD tonight -- finally some real HD content!

Got HDi yesterday

Had problems with the live pause, skipping on playpack. Paused the Simpsons on Prime for the kids went to play and evry 10 secs or so it would skip forward 5 secs (yup right over the couch bit!)

Tried on a few other channels and did the same on discovery. Did the power off/on and it seems to be ok now.

Managed to kill it later in the night by trying out the interactive games & after about 3 mins it hung, It kept showing the frozen game and I could see the ibanner and change that but no picture or sound, so another reboot.

hopefully I haven't got a dud one!

Yep for now I understand the new LNBs have not landed, and as the new satellite that the new LNB allows simultaneous sight of is not even in service there is currently no need up change anything on the dish. As I said HDi customers will be visted next month when LNBs do become available, I also understand there will be a gradual upgrade of all multi tuner installations if you have a sky installer visit for whatever reason, just as the last LNB upgrade has done.

If it keeps doing that, try doing a reboot from the front panel, press back and the select buttons together.

See if that makes any difference.
