No, it wasn't an ex display model or anything like that. Brand new in the box :-)

Yikes! No wonder the guy wouldn't tell me the price over the phone. That's at least 600 below the nearest price I've seen. And re. Japan/China, I believe that 2008's PY models were the last ones made in China to be supplied to us. The PZs- which are basically just the PYs but with freeview HD tuners and 'digital cinema colour'- and everything from then on are made in Japan I think.

hey guys, just out of curiosity, what do you think you'd spend your panadollars on that you get when you buy a panasonic tv at the moment. The g10 gives you like 4/500 and i can't really think of anything fantastic for that amount.

Can you use the Panadollars and pay the difference for something more expensive? I'd get an HD camcorder.

Okay - just got a HN brochure showing a 50g10 for $2966 - the only model code is on the pandollars logo, but it is showing "500panadollars" which only applies to the g10. I rung HN Tauranga to confirm, they're querying it and getting back to me. Get that brochure and argue your case at your store. Special supposed to run 1/9 to 7/9.

They just got back to me - "NO DEAL". it's a misprint, it's the s10. They were prepared to top up the panadollars to 500 if I get the s for the confusion - ??? Head office in damage control mode apparently.

Hahaha.
Well good news, my mates tv got delivered. Haven't had the chance to burn it in or calibrate it fully yet but even so it looks pretty sweet, very deep blacks and nice all round colours.
This could possibly be cause it's not properly set up yet and it was quite bright in that room today but it still looked like it was a noticeable step below the kuros, probably the closest tv i've seen yet though.

I think it is definitely still a step below the Kuro. But that is widely regarded as the greatest TV ever made, so there's no shame in not beating it!

The only TV I've read about that supposedly surpasses the Kuro is the new Panasonic V series- which as earlier described in this string won't be making it's way onto our shores! Damn it!

Here's the review that calls the V series the new king of HDTVs:

I have heard from at least 2 retailers that Panasonic are bringing in the V10's now, so there is a chance that they are. Have been told October/November. I have been keen based on the reviews and I am wanting the 96Hz for the 24p content, and the THX certification is a bonus. Mind you some of those G10 prices are looking good.

Would be nice if some one else knows more about this, let alone confirm that it is true.

Ooooh!

That reminds me: I wanted to check with a work colleague if the place where me showed the wholesale price for the G10 has the V10 listed as well.

"I am wanting the 96Hz for the 24p content"

That's the exact reason that I'm interested in the V series. I mean, Panasonic have just announced their intention to begin releasing 3-D compatible Televisions beginning in 2010, so I wouldn't be upgrading to the V series in the meantime, but I'm definitely interested in seeing first-hand how that technology has improved. Also interested in seeing that us Kiwis get the best Panasonic have to offer, just on principal!

I'd like to see NZ get it's fair share of tvs too, places like the US get a much broader lineup from all the big manufacturers than we do.
