old3eyes: My biggest bitch about BD movies here in NZ is the big price difference between BD and DVD. Take 2012. DVD starts at $27, BD at $40. Or Star Trek movie last years release , still $45 (JB HiFi yesterday)

Yes, but they have come down heaps in the last year. the best prices are in new releases, there are some catalog titles for $24 or less at JBhifi. I get mine mostly from overseas where they have regular specials and discounts, and a lot of titles that are not available here. Amazon has some really good prices on catalog titles at the moment.

I gave up on getting overseas DVDs when trademe went stupid about not being able to sell unclassified ones on there. Never get a good price thru other avenues that dont care about that stupid law.

Its high time that obnoxious restriction on freedom of trade law was abolished IMO. Rating information for releases is not hard to find like it was in the distant past when the law was made.

Speaking of imported blu rays, I'm not sure how many are interested in that sort of thing but if you are, then this site is your best friend: http://bluray.liesinc.net/ !

It lists pretty much *all* blu ray releases in the US [and a few others like UK, Japan etc], and lets you know at a glance if the particular title is region locked or not.

That was why I always liked HD DVD - no region locking. But quite a significant number of blu ray releases are not region locked still :) (Interestingly, generally from the same studios that were into HD DVD in a big way; WB, Paramount, Universal)

Really useful anyway, found it great for TV series especially as they take so long to come out here sometimes! Gotta love Amazon.
