Holy crap, more like ripoffstation. Yell Money mouth

Though no matter whos going to start selling these in nz i would expect people to be selling them for far more than it would cost for someone to get on the net and buy one themselves, and putting in a hdd is pretty easy im not sure if they support putting larger hdd's in so if you need to open the case up or anything. Still, its so easy my cat could just about do it.

would it be possible to route sounnd to an external source for recoding. A pain of a work around but could fix the problem short-medium term, atleast till he-aac is suported natively.

How much will these be going for?
Because I see that Popcornhour have just released their latest models:

The new one has SATA and digital optical :) Sweet!!!
But yeah you can get them ordered in from the PopcornHD site for $310 for the old series 1, 360 for the series 2, unless the exchange rate continues to drop even more :(

I would be willing to pay maybe $10-20 more though if there was a local warranty/point of return in case things did go wrong though :)

Haha that's too true :) $999 NZ + shipping for what could be delivered to your door for $310
plus the 500gb HDDs only go for just under $100NZD on Pricespy.co.nz for PATA and $94 for the SATA ones,
Maybe I should start selling them and my cat and your cat could team up and put the HDDs in Tongue out

I to will be very interested in getting one once the HE-AAC audio is supported and tested. I'm currently using a PC in the bedroom for streaming from GBPVR - The PC's a Dual Core AMD x64 with 2GB and a Nvidia 9600GT running Vista Business. The operating system is worth nearly as much as the value talked about for PCH in NZ dollar and its noisy as the only low profile 9600GT I could find has a fan that goes non-stop. I could easily sell this system once I no-longer need it.

Any word on HE-AAC Testing?

Hello Team,

Ripstation is a re-seller only and does not get to dictate RRP, the NZ distributor does.
We must also note the price is bundled with the ripping service.

Popcorn hour product falls into the catagory of 'high support' especially in its current beta phase.
Im guessing we will see movement in the RRP in the near future once the product has had time to prove its reliability.
It also takes alot of setup and training to have the product ready for the consumer which is factored into the cost.
Which would not really be required for the high level of Geekzone readers ability if they were the only consumer.

So please dont bag ripstation.co.nz they are doing great things for our industry.

That price is a huge rip off.  I hope no one buys one at that price.

I agree! The 500gb drive is worth under $150NZD and the Popcorn hour around $300 so quite how they get to $999 I will never know! I wonder if maybe SamNC4 has some sort of association with Ripstation.

If I sold a client on mine something costing me $500 for $1000 in the computer industry I wouldn't be expecting them to come back again!

If its high support (its not) sell the box at a fair price and charge for support if required, seems much fairer to me.

No the NZ Distributor does not. Retailer's must be free to charge what they see fit, or you are breaching the Commerce Act.

Also anyone can import these and sell them. The concept of "NZ Distributor" is a bit of a misnomer given the ability to parallel import. There may be a single importer given official support etc, but it does not create a monopoly.

We must also note the price is bundled with the ripping service.

The $999.00 price doesn't seem to. To get 500 CD's ripped as well as a PCH its $1,377.00

How hard can it be to plug in a hard drive and an hdmi cable anyway?
