Totally support buying local if Sound Hub can still get hold of the PB12-NSD, but if not Rapallo have it for the same price (including shipping):

https://www.rapalloav.co.nz/product/svs-pb12-nsd-12-ported-subwoofer/

I’ll admit to having bought my sub sound unheard, which isn’t ideal for sure but at that point no one stocked them locally; I didn’t regret the purchase for a second.

And, honestly, their size is such that they make a great coffee table (more often, a wine table!).

Was reading that thread on the subs, started to fair s*&t myself reading some of those prices for the new models, although good to see there is the possibility of still getting the pb12-NSD as that price is far easier for the wife to swallow (unless I Don’t tell her lol). Although I imagine the physical size of the sub may be just as offputting for her, but I can just continue to talk things up to get her to see my way :-)

Started also hunting suitable wall mounts for speakers which is proving to be quite difficult. The existing rear speaker wires are on the wall behind the couch quite high (approx 1 foot from the ceiling) so need to be able to turn left/right and tilt down, as well as be capable of holding 6kg of speaker. This is the next mission.

Depending on what you're after, there are speaker brackets that will take that weight no problems, though the bigger issue may be depth.

I bought some sets off Trade Me that are similar to the Pivoteli brackets of the '90s. They work fine for both my sets of rears, and can be easily adjusted L/R (just pivot) and up/down with the knob at the bottom. Here's a photo of them, taken on a weird angle so you can see more of the bracket.

You can see that I had the same need to point them down, due to having to put them relatively high on the wall.

Looking on Trade Me the same brackets are still sold, as per the link below, but I'm sure there are other options out there that can take deeper speakers.

Awesome, cheers for that link, they look to be exactly the type Im after. Although weirdly they appeared in any of my searches through trademe for brackets, unless I skipped through them when searching.

Necrothread I know, but after missing out on those cheap pb12s earlier in the year I saw late last week that Rapalloav had the pb2000 sub on spesh for $1499, subsequently ordered one and now eagerly await its arrival...... then saw yesterday the local dealer had the same price for the same sub at the local home show.

So you are getting two then? 😜

Noice, you are going to love it. I recommend taking it for a test drive with a UHD Blu ray copy of Blade Runner: 2049, happy to lend you a copy if you don't have it.

I really wanted to supplement my PB12 with one of these since they so close in performance, but after having spent over the equivalent of 2x these on baby goods these last couple of months, probably not...

I would avoid RapalloAV like the plague. I've recently had a terrible experience with them and am still waiting on my refund.

If you can buy it literally anywhere else, I would.

I am glad you had a positive experience.

For the record, in my experience of having owned most of the major HT amps, and in the mid to top end prosumer grade, I would rate Yamaha above Pioneer. I really loved my Marantz, but it would take me a fair bit to switch away from Yamaha these days.

Ive always been a fan of Yamaha - I have an RX-V675 thats about 8-9 years old and its been doing the job well.

That generation has to have a seperate bluetooth module but I use an old Airport express plugged into the analogue Audio 1 input.

Centre speaker options was what I found hardest, but I found (sort of accidentally) a great compromise.

YAS-306 yamaha soundbar.

I have the TV connected via an optical input and it switches on and off with the TV remote.

This is used for 90% of TV viewing.

Thos soundbar also as L-R analogue inputs as well, I have split the single channel centre output from my Amp and plugged it into the L and R of the soundbar. To use the 5.1 (all the speakers I have) I just have to change soundbar input from TV to Analogue and turn off the "Surround" option - this is the synthetic room filling out of phase techie thingy that makes soundbars work well and what everyone complains about when using a soundbar as a centre speaker.

The only other thing is to set the soundbar to the right volume (has a series of lights) to fit in with your Amp volume settings. This produced volume then increases up and down with the main volume on the Amp

Happy Days and works great.

Wow. Hooked the sub up and ran through briefly some of blade runner 2049 through Netflix on the nvidia Tv, fair to say I’m pretty impressed the sheer depth it gave the sound. Although I’m on strict instruction from my wife not to play it later at night so the kids can sleep haha.

its a big unit, and the black ash finish marries it up pretty close to my Polk audio towers.
