And we are still in an era where CEC is flaky, I don't mind not having a physical controller, we have a Harmony One, but the key is the Hub.

Quite happy to work through phone or tablet to the Hub especially since I have a very good Yamaha amp without CEC and I want my systems to be co-ordinated through the amp

I hate the occasional time I have to use the app. If they improved the app considerably it would help a lot, but even then I'd still want a dedicated device like an iPod Touch (one for each hub) so it can be unlocked with the app open all the time. But in my opinion you just can't beat physical buttons for the most common tasks, as I want to be able to do as much as possible without having to look at the remote.

Probably a moot point in regards to Harmony though. I'm sure the demise of the remotes will also be the demise of the hub.

Love my Harmony 650, just bought the last one from PBTech as a backup. Other places seem to be asking top dollar.

I also wouldn't mind paying a subscription to keep this active. Anyone have alternatives?

At this stage they are only stopping production. Support and software upgrades are continuing

May interest a few people but I've been looking for a replacement for my Logitech Harmony and just backed this: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sofabaton/sofabaton-x1

Kickstarter, so comes with risks but Sofabaton has been around for a little while and the price is pretty good.

Thanks for the heads-up @michaelmurfy, that's a pretty neat project to fill the harmony shaped gap.

Backed as well, guess we will see how that works out in a 3-4 months!

I backed the 2 pack because my Parents have a harmony remote too and know they're not going to get another one when it fails. So hoping it'll be great! If it isn't "parent friendly" will end up selling on here.

I'm looking for a family friendly solution as well.

The option I'm currently looking at is getting three of the the Broadlink RM4 pro (for the bedroom, living room and family room). A big downside is that is doesn't have  a physical remote. However, it's relatively inexpensive, and as I have been blanketing the house in smart speakers, it does mean that I should be able to put most things on voice control rather than family members having to use phones to control everything.

I'm really intrigued at the idea of moving to Home Assistant to start to control everything, then I could have routines like saying "hey google, play a dvd" - which would then say turn on the TV, turn it to the right input, turn on the sound system, turn on the DVD player, dim the lights and (eventually) draw the curtains as well etc.

However, I find Home Assistant a bit intimidating at the moment, and I'm a bit nervous that it could be beyond my technical capability.

Looks like there are a few hands-on reviews surfacing for the pre-production Sofabaton X1:

So doing a quick unlock and plug that I backed the Unfolded Circle Remote 2 a few years back, it arrived, it is glorious but my needs have changed (as in - don't need a universal remote anymore). If anyone wants to take it off my hands and have potentially the best feeling remote you've ever experienced then here it is: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=77&topicid=310625
