Its also unlikely ripstation will provide real support. At most it'll be superficial support relating to connecting things up (cables etc), and anything more complex the user will have to visit the NMT forums etc. (ripstation are not going to be able to get bugs fixed etc)

Shame on whoever posted the sexintheuk link and attributed it to someone in this forum. Firstly it seems unlikely that someone in the UK would be interested in a NZ geek site, so I would have thought the chances of it being the same samnc4 is pretty slim. You should be aware that if you allege they are one in the same, you better be able to prove it if the geekzone samnc4 chooses to sue you for defamation.

Secondly, even if it is the same person, how do his sexual preferences affect this conversation? I too disagree with what samnc4 said, but I don't stoop to the illogical step of implying that he is wrong because he may like threesomes. Get the conversation out of the gutter, and if you don't have something to contribute then don't post at all. Or stand for Parliament.

samnc4: Hello Team,

Ripstation is a re-seller only and does not get to dictate RRP, the NZ distributor does.
We must also note the price is bundled with the ripping service.

Popcorn hour product falls into the catagory of 'high support' especially in its current beta phase.
Im guessing we will see movement in the RRP in the near future once the product has had time to prove its reliability.
It also takes alot of setup and training to have the product ready for the consumer which is factored into the cost.
Which would not really be required for the high level of Geekzone readers ability if they were the only consumer.

So please dont bag ripstation.co.nz they are doing great things for our industry.

Gidday all,

I have to agree with the above.  Whilst there is an obvious mark-up on the price it costs to land one into New Zealand it is justified by the additional services provided by the distributor/reseller.

I have no dealings with Ripstation, but I myself work for a home automation company and we've used popcorn hours as part of our solutions.  We incorporate it into our own product and build the necessary drivers to allow it to function seamlessly with it.  We also offer to rip their music and video collections to the NMT.

Our customers are very satisfied with the Popcorn Hour product, the service we deliver, and therefore the price.

I don't doubt for one second that Geekzone forum members can install the product, additional components and get one up and running in no time but believe me, the vast majority of my clients cannot, and have no desire to.  Thats why they pay the higher price.

Where is Popcorn? I thought he was going to be the NZ distrubutor? Does he have a web-site?
