Lizard1977: Sadly, no...

I got home and set about finishing the configuration, setting up the activities. Now, when I choose an activity, it doesn't change the input on the receiver. In other words, whatever input the receiver was set to when it the receiver was turned off, is what it stays on when I choose an activity. So when I choose "Listen to Music" it doesn't change to the ipod input, unless I use help. And the same when I choose "Watch TV", it just stays on whatever input it was on before.

When I troubleshoot the problem using the desktop software, the only suggestion it makes is to adjust the delay settings. I tried a longer delay (2000ms) and a shorter delay (500ms) but it doesn't make any difference. Any ideas?

Again, write down what you want, ring Logitech, they will set it up for you and run a check to make sure it is all working right when they are on the phone with you, and it will all be sorted. Honestly, it is much simpler if you can't sort it quickly yourself is to just ring them.

Extend the Power On Delay of the receiver.
This is under the devices section and relates to delays.

It's in milliseconds, so go up in 1000 (1second) increases until it works.

* Sorry had a much nicer post but it didn't submit and I lost it all.  Can't be a$$ed doing it all again.

Guts is, if it works under help then the commands are correct.
If you send those commands before the receiver is ready to so anything with them then you will have problems.

Well, after a tortuous courtship, the marriage is finally "Harmony-ous" /bad puns...

I set aside Saturday to configure it, and I managed to set up the devices without too much trouble. My past experiences meant I was able to blitz that part fairly easily. But I hit the same roadblocks with the activities, namely not switching inputs on the receiver. I tried the power-on delay settings, but nothing I chose worked, going all the way up to 10s (10000ms) and it still didn't work. In the end, I emailed customer support and explained the problem. I got an email back this morning, and they said they had adjusted the power on delay for the receiver. I synced the remote, and it finally worked. I checked the settings, and it was 1000ms, which I found strange as I tried that, and it didn't work, unless they changed something else as well. But I decided not to dwell on it too much, and set about configuring the other activities.

So far, all is going well. I've now introduced SWMBO to the newest family member, and she seems reasonably receptive. I've hidden the original remotes away, and will use the next week as a test period to iron out any kinks or overlooked functions. Fingers crossed.

I refuse to retract my comments that the software is horrible. But at least the hardware is playing ball now, so I'm mollified. And with any luck, Logitech will improve the software in the future...

Thanks to everyone for their patience and putting up with my rants/whining about Logitech remote software. If you don't hear from me in this thread again, assume I'm happily ensconced in front of my TV...

Congrats.

Yeah no one is saying the software is great.  Simple additions like a copy and paste of activities would go a long way for me as I often have one for just the TV on, and then one that includes sound through the stereo etc.  They've basically the same but have to be built from the ground up.

Typically though the software can let you do all that you need to be able to do.

Remember that you have the 'device' mode on the remote that will mimic the original device remote.  I say that because if that is setup correctly then you won't have to reach for the original remote even if things aren't going so well.

Yeah the a device not switching inputs automatically but doing it later when you press help etc almost always means the on delay timer is too short.  Glad you got it working though.  I've heard some mainly good things about the help service and luckily I've never had to use it myself.  Well done!

DEvice mode is a bit of a pain on the harmonys because they have so few hardkeys that you take for granted on a remote, so the softkeys get heavy use, which means you really need to clean the list of things that it has on the stock configuration.

Why does it give me softkeys for HDMI inputs when I tell it I have a 15 year old SD CRT tv? No idea. Again, its the software that lets it down loading up keys that have no use.
