Hey all, i'm new to these forums and have a couple questions..

I'm looking at building a HTPC using the open source MythTV as the software. I'm looking at buying a dvb-t capable tuner card, which i assume will come with a remote. Will i be able to use this remote with navagating around the software such as browsing through my movie / music collection? or do i need a seperate remote for that? A bit confused as i want ONE remote that will control the tuner card and also navagate..

I don't use Myth but I saw this a while back. I believe that you should be able to navigate through your media with PVR software that supports your tuner card. It might pay to read the doc. for the small print on tuner card incompatibilities if any.

Where can i find a list of supported dvb-t TV tuner cards for MythTV Do you guys have any recommended cards you know work with MythTV (or any other Linux MCE s/w), preferably DVB-T/DVB-S and best bang/features for buck?

Any particular reason you want a Linux based PVR? FWIW: I've used Myth TV in the past but recently switched to Media Portal to improve the WAF. We couldn't be happier - very slick piece of software and works very well with the Haupauge DVB-S card we have.

Sweet, thanks for the links. Most likely i'll go for the HAUPPAUGE WINTV NOVA T 500 HD as i see a few people here have had good experiences with it. It comes with a remote + IR sensor, since it is supported by MythTV - will this mean i can use this remote to navigate around the MythTV / Media Portal PVR s/w? (sorry im nub). Cheers

Joe if you have a spare PCI-express slot keep an eye out for Hauppauge HVR2200 Dual Dgital/Analog Hardware encoder card, looks very nice. Expically suitable of you have sky. Check out mediaportal PVR software for windows it's free and opensource :) And supports NZ DVB-T HD boradcasts

Cool, will do. From my understanding, to decode freeview signals, you need the h.264 codec right? If your graphics GPU does not have onboard then you will need the software codec which stresses your CPU quite a lot and need a high end CPU to cope with it.. I have a spare AMD 3000+ cpu lying around and a NVidia GeForce 7600GS card, would this combination be sufficient? The CPU isin't the greatest, but i know that the 7600gs GPU supports nvidia "PureVideo" which from what i know means it has hardware support for HD (the h.264 codec) which will relieve some of the stress on my CPU.. Could someone confirm/deny this?
