Hello, I am from a state near the Canadian border called Minnesota.  Sorry, the US has gone downhill lately, but we are still the largest economy in the world.

I am 52 year old WASP, DINK, Mensa member, National Master at chess, married, Night Auditor (under achiever) at a local hotel, and own three 80 pound dobermans that pull me around well over an hour a day Summer/Winter/no matter what the weather.

My kick is that technological progress is exponential, not linear (see The Singularity is Near).  This means that we are going to see AMAZING progress in the next couple of decades.  Extreme longevity treatments, artificial intelligence far smarter than the average person, and energy too cheap to meter.  On that last point, here is a primer:

"A volume about the size of a #2 pencil eraser of water provides as much energy as two 48-gallon drums of gasoline. That is 355,000 times the amount of energy per volume – five orders of magnitude." ( http://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/New-LENR-Machine-is-the-Best-Yet.html ).

This phenomenon (LENR) has been confirmed in hundreds of published scientific papers: http://lenr-canr.org/acrobat/RothwellJtallyofcol.pdf

"Over 2 decades with over 100 experiments worldwide indicate LENR is real, much greater than chemical..." --Dennis M. Bushnell, Chief Scientist, NASA Langley Research Center

"Total replacement of fossil fuels for everything but synthetic organic chemistry." --Dr. Joseph M. Zawodny, NASA

By the way, here is a survey of some of the companies that are bringing LENR to commercialization: http://www.cleantechblog.com/2011/08/the-new-breed-of-energy-catalyzers-ready-for-commercialization.html

For those who still aren't convinced, here is a paper I wrote that contains some pretty convincing evidence: http://coldfusionnow.org/the-evidence-for-lenr/

Cheers!

Welcome...

So basically cold fusion (or whatever term you choose to give it this decade) is going to change everything any day now? Apologies, but I remain sceptical ;-)

I agree, but I think the name "cold fusion" is a misnomer, since the Coulomb barrier isn't being breached the way the world "fusion" implies.  Instead, perhaps "electron capture," or the Fleischmann-Pons effect (FPE).

Basically, you evaporate hydrogen in a nickel lattice, heat and put under pressure, then you get nuclear transmutation and heat from the beta decay.  I could go into the details, but one way of explaining it without violating any of the Laws of Physics is the Widom-Larsen theory (although I don't favor it), which NASA seems to endorse as the explanation of this amazing phenomena.

One of the best forms of proof is the US government contract I link to that basically shows you how to build and fuel a LENR reactor that gets over unity:

Here is a detailed description of a LENR generator and formula that was producing energy over unity. In the March of 1994 US government contract F33615-93-C-2326 titled “NASCENT HYDROGEN: AN ENERGY SOURCE” (www.lenr-canr.org/acrobat/GernertNnascenthyd.pdf ), “Anomalous heat was measured from a reaction of atomic hydrogen in contact with potassium carbonate on a nickel surface.”

Frankly, given the evidence I present, a person ought to be fairly well convinced...did I say that the first LENR generators ought to be out on the market soon, and we are waiting for a third party verification of it out any day now.

Also, did I mention that energy companies seem to be divesting in anticipation of this paradigm shift?

http://coldfusionnow.org/oilprice-com-links-cot-and-new-energy-breakthrough/

Finally, this is a main stream media article that just came out last week in Forbes:

Welcome! Must say this is probably one of the most interesting introduction posts I've read so far haha. Hope to see you around :)
I'll definitely be reading this more tomorrow, bit late for me now but I managed to get the jist and it seemed pretty amazing. Great stuff.

Yeah, I started out worried about the dual-use implications of the genomic revolution during the leadup to the Iraq preventative invasion.

Then, I learned that I will likely be living hundreds of years (if I can make it another twenty years for the technology to blossom, which is very likely), so started making radical life-style changes.

Then, I started following a company called BlackLight Power because the head guy there Dr Mills (he was the leader of the team that fulfilled the US government contract I cited in an earlier post) was getting over unity from hydrogen.  He forwarded some weird theory about hydrinos (hydrogen atoms whose electrons had lower orbits, shrinking the H atom so small it would go through virtually any container, and that what Dark Matter was).

Then a guy called Rossi started demonstrating his LENR reactor to groups.  He was getting amazing results with nickel and hydrogen, and for a long while there we thought it was the nickel that was the fuel (because the nickel was turning into copper and other elements).  His company Leonardo seems to be likely to be the first to successfully commercialize the technology.

Along the way I've collected some fantastic technology - ever read the book Abundance?  We are living in very interesting times - it is hard to keep up with all the technological advances.  My motto is "Longevity first...and everything else second."  Did you know there is a supplement out there that extends your telomere strands?

http://www.my-wellness-coach.com/2010/07/the-man-who-would-be-immortal-.html

I don't want to overwhelm you with reading material or foreign/fantastic concepts, but somethings are beyond the pale.
