I've been browsing geekzone for some time so I thought I'd better do the right thing and join.

A newbie at this type of forum although I've been mucking around with geekish things for a while now.  Got my first PC when 20MB harddrives were cool, my first cell phone would only just fit in my pocket, and my first GPS experience was wandering around hills mid-night with a GPS in a backpack because there was going to be a 5 satellite constellation. First personal ISP connection required a visit to the server administrator to fill out a form and there were higher rates for overseas browsing.  All seems a bit low tech now.

Anyway my name is Steven and I have a small land surveying business based at Wanganui.

Welcome sarcher!

Interesting, your original post shows you as "0 posts" yet you posted an intro post (so it should read "1 post").  Weird.

An error message popped up just after my posting so maybe the posting arrived but the profile didn't get updated

ShadowReaper23: in an infinitly large universe such as for instance the one in which we live most things one could possibly imagine and a lot of things one would rather not, grow somewhere. thus it is that very few things actually get manufactured these days. a forest was discovered recently in which most of the trees grew ratchet screw drivers as fruit. the life cycle of a ratchet screwdriver fruit is quite interesting, once picked it needs a dark dusty drawer in which it can lie undisturbed for years. then one night it suddenly hatches, discards its outter skin which crumbles into dust and emerges as a totaly unidentifiable little metal object with flanges at both ends and a sort of ridge and a sort of hole for a screw. this when found will get thrown away. no one knows what it's supposed to gain from this, nature in her infinite wisdom is presumably working on it

No one really knows what matresses are supposed to gain from their lives either. they're large freindly pocket sprung creatures which live quite private lives in the swamps of squan sheller zeta. they flollip about. blowing bubbles through the water, their blue and white stripes glicening in the feeble rays of it's sun. many of them get caught, slaughtered, dryed out, shipped out and slept on. none of them seem to mind and all of them are called zem

What's with the signature??

I do go to Wellington occasionally but I can't say that I've delivered any lectures. Maybe his name is Steven with a ph(d) :)
