Hi guys.

I got myself a second hand laptop on Trademe. However the battery life is absolute rubbish.

I have read a youtube clip that says you can rebuild battery using new cells for almost half the cost.

I thought in the mean time, I'd just rebuild my battery using Cells from my old laptop. (That battery could last for an hour and a half maybe more.

I opened both batteries, and what I can see is that all the cells look identical on both.

There is the same amount of numbers of cells on everything.

However the models of the cells are slightly different.

The ones on the rubbish battery starts with SE, but the ones on the good cells start with SF.

Both of them have the same numbers afterwards which is US18659GR.

Also my main concern, is that the battery from the one laptop is rated 10.8v, and the other is 11.1v.

Would the cells work?

Thanks

i guess you could ... but have you heard rumours about exploding batteries, fires and deaths from factory batteries? i wouldn't want to build a factory in my house and risk everything ...

To be honest, i would just pick up a battery from Trademe.

Due to the voltages being different (although not by much) i would steer clear of swapping them over. You could risk either damaging your new laptop with a higher voltage, or damaging the battery when charging it with the old charger.

Then again it might work perfectly.

For my aging laptop (HP NX7400) i can pick up a battery off trademe for $50+P&P.

As for your question, refer to my second paragraph for my opinion on it :)

Unless you can spot weld battery cells building your own battery pack isn't really an option.
