There are a few other deals on the store, looks like theyre trying to clear out their Ivy Bridge Machines.  XPS 14 is $1300 off as well.

My Dell Inspiron 14Z with SSD gives well over 5 hours.

Dell must normally be making some good $$ as I just bought a XPS 13 ultrabook for someone at work a few weeks back for around the discounted price (corporate account).

Its actually very nice and was one of the only small ultra books with a 1080p screen. Wasn't expecting it having been used to their latitude range. Although the dock is disappointing as its USB based and won't drive a Dell 27" ultra sharp monitor. You have to use the mini display port and create a customer low refresh rate resolution profile.

Also consider keeping an eye on the outlet store sales (nz stock that a customer cancelled/returned etc)

http://www1.ap.dell.com/nz/en/dfo/df.aspx?refid=df&s=dfo

You can generally get an extra $50-150 off the listed price when you do the phone order for it if you ask/be a bit cagey on placing the order then and there.

Also if you don't like it, and want to return it within the time frame they sometimes offer the a small discount to keep it and keep you happy.

Top notch service, considering their relatively poor reputation for low end(<2k) consumer laptops imo.

Do the fans on these things sound like vacuum cleaners? I can't stand LOUD fans.

I can only speak for my 14z, but it's almost impossible to hear the fan, when it is running that is.  It's super quiet.

I bought this http://www.dell.com/nz/p/inspiron-17r-se-7720/fs for my son, before it was on special (grumble grumble) for his 21st in Feb, matched it with this http://shop.jbhifi.co.nz/computers-laptops/computer-accessories/targus-awe55au-laptop-chill-mat-black/62578 but it was cheaper then.

I posted earlier about this being $1259. Inspiron 17R Special Edition Laptop

Seems that it is now even cheaper, not sure what changed, maybe this model does not have a Blu-ray reader. Cannot remember if the last one had it or not?

Anyways it is $1169, only difference I can see between the last deal is the optical drive.

Works out $90 less than the last deal. It is showing $630 off rather than $840 off although. Hard to keep track of the changes once changed.

I'd be quite interested in this too. Could one pop an SSD along with the HDD into one of these relatively easily?
