It's most unlikely you will be able to buy any "reconditioned" LCD panel for your laptop Frown

We get this kind of request in our business all the time from people who see a piece of equipment on our web site and think they can buy just the LCD or a Backlight Tube.

MANY years ago, we used to be able to buy Backlight Tubes separately, so we carried a small stock for repairs.  However, none of the LCD manufacturers offer that service any longer AFAIK.  Instead, we have to return the faulty LCD to the factory who sold us the equipment.  If we are lucky they have some spare LCDs on the shelf and can exchange it.  If we are unlucky they have to return the LCD to the manufacturer for repair.  This can take up to 3 months and is certainly NOT CHEAP.

The good thing is that we very seldom have faulty LCDs any more -- the reliability has improved enormously over the past 5 years.

For an old laptop like yours, there is a Trading Company you could try:

http://store.earthlcd.com/

You might be lucky, they might just have the right kind of panel available.  However, there are many thousands of different types, and knowing whether you got the right one, is a bit of a lottery.  As you will see, the prices aren't cheap, especially by the time you pay shipping charges from the US and probably Customs Clearance in NZ.  You may be best just to sell the remaining good parts on TradeMe and get $100 or $200 towards a new laptop.

IF you are in Wellington i recal a repair shop in the Grand arcade (above the star-mart on willis street) that did repairs and had a sony logo - might be worth checking out... just if you're in wellington that is...
