Hi All

Currently search for a new laptop, the Sony decided to die on me last night.
Been looking at the MSI GE70 ( http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GE70_2PE_Apache_Pro.html#overview ), but seen some reviews that the fan noise is unbearable...looks like an amazing laptop.

Does anyone own a MSI GE70 laptop?

Can anyone recommend a laptop with the following specs:

  • 17inch
  • 128 or 256 SSD
  • 2.4ghz+
  • 8 cores
  • 8GB+ ram
  • Budget - $1300 - $2000
  • Quiet....very important.
  • not a brick.

Thanks

Never ever had any issues with MSI on their range of products.
Go for it.

i had a MSI prior to the Sony. Had the Sony for 3 years.

Fans were very loud on that one too, nothing was running and it made an annoying loud fan speed noise. Sounded like it was raining outside.
Which MSI do you have?

Had a 5770 card and had a laptop i tossed out about a year ago. One of the first core 2 duo's in a laptop.
Back in the day when i had 2GB of RAM and peoples heart stopped from the shock of how much it has.

I can only suggest a cruise around some of the major retailers to see what appeals.  And check the processor specs yourself.  I've seen a number of people disappointed when they have assumed things like processor cores.

Can you get an 8 core mobile processor?  Best I have seen is a hyperthreaded quad core, which seems to be what the laptop you have linked has installed.

I'm more into utilitarian laptops than sexy.  I'd be tempted to go for a ProBook 470 and retrofit an SSD or the WD Dual Drive.  There is an open-box one at Exeed (F3K33PA-RT) that is rather sharply priced right now (assuming you have an account with them).  LCD is only 1600x900 (with AMD Radeon HD 8750M 2GB Dedicated Graphics) but for 99% of what you use the machine for that will probably be fine.

Tried that today, nothing really caught my interest.
here's a link of the guys i went to go see today with regards to the msi ( http://www.justlaptops.net.nz/latest-2014-msi-ge70-apache-pro-gtx860m-fhd-ssd-2258 ), mentions 8 core there, then again also mentions hyperthreading.

Unfortunately don't have an account with exceed, whats their pricing?
