Ok I have a daughter who is just off to UNI,

Wants a laptop, new.
Budget $1500 to include office.
Screen size 15-16.
No Apple products

Also wants it to look funkey (sorry not my choice)
So styling and colour is important,
Pink is preferred colour (again sorry guys not my choice !!)

So any recommendations please ?

Thanks

Screen Resolution, touch screen? I would recommend touch screen with windows 8 after using a touch screen laptop for the last few weeks. If they are s student, they should get cheap access to office, so you may want to hold off buying office until they have started. The sony laptops are very stylish looking.

The Sony VIAO range used to to have some laptops available in pink and would meet the pink and stylish requirements. I think I read somewhere that Sony were getting out of the laptop and pc market, but perhaps some options are still available.

...just put some girly stickers on it.

My sister loves the touch screen laptop i got for her. Cost like $500 at PB Tech with a average I5 4xxx and 4GB Ram.
Nice little ASUS.

I dunno about PINK. Really a chick off to Uni shouldn't give 2 effs about a laptop colour and prefer functionality. Bummer they dont sell those fluro VIAO's now.

My University offers Microsoft Office for free so you should look to see if your daughters uni have the same offer.

Asus Vivobook. My wife has a smaller pink one, you should be able to get 15" for that money. They have too many models for me to look through. My Dad got a Sony a while back based on my recommendation, it lasted a few years but it was never moved from a house, not sure I'd buy one. It has weird keys too, not so good for typing.

Suggest you put in an aftermarket SSD (check the height, they vary), and also set up good backups - Crashplan or similar or BitTorrent Sync back to your computer. All drives fail and regular online backups could save uni work.

Best not to prematurely ignore Windows tablets. Dell laptop-equiped daughter gnawing my ears off on this.
