Last week the email from Jolla arrived in my inbox announcing pre-orders for their new tablet.  I'm pretty keen to try out the Sailfish OS. It's a development of Meego and I really rate Meego.

Unfortunately they don't take orders for New Zealand residents, even though they're accepting orders from Australia.

Not to be deterred I decided to try out YouShop and successfully placed my pre-order today.

I now have to be patient and sit back till October for it to ship.

Yep got that too. Don't need a new tablet myself but the missus wants one so I've been trying to talk her into getting this. Quite conveniently, I'd "help set it up" - she's not convinced yet though :-/

I still have a HP Touchpad which is still pretty good, though just recently the Yahoo mail stopped working due security certificate issues.  I was able to get it to receive but still cannot send emails from that account.

I've been watching the Jolla guys for a while and would have bought the phone except they don't support Spark frequencies.

The tablet gives me a chance to check out the Sailfish OS. The initial reviews of the OS have been good.

I missed out on the indeigogo campaign. My wife gave me the money for my birthday to get one so I've been patiently (actually more like impatiently) waiting for the tablet to go on general sale.

Looks like you need to find someone to take your other tablet off your hands. cool

I have an old Touchpad running Android which has served me really well but it's nearly time for replacement. Does anyone have any experience with Sailfish?

I don't have experience with Sailfish but I do with Meego and that is what Sailfish is developed from.  Jolla was set up by a bunch of ex Nokia employees that worked on the Meego project.

I really like Meego as an OS. I've used Android on the HTC One, Windows Phone on the 920 and 1020, and Symbian on the E7 and Meego on the N9.  For me Meego is the best OS I've used.  It's well featured and very stable.  I found Meego was intuitive to learn and the other OS's seem clunky by comparison. YMMV

Sailfish has had good reviews and Sailfish 2.0, which the Tablet comes with, has been rated better than the first version of Sailfish.  There are regular updates rolled out. Almost weekly with Sailfish 1. Being Linux base, there's a strong developer network plus Sailfish can run Android apps.

I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Here's info on Jolla at the WMC earlier this year.
