Have XPS13 9343 (vents at base) and looking for options for cooling while using it on lap for 1-2 hours.
Portable = easy to pack in standard school bag and under 1kg.
Have googled a bit, looks like active cooling is the deal but pretty bulky (already own a coolermaster which has ended up on desk at 'docking station'). Thanks.

You shouldn't need active cooling. If you do, the laptop is either very poorly designed or your vents are blocked. Just make sure you're using it on a flat surface, even something like a big plastic cutting board would be fine.

Thanks have tried that, laptop stays at 50C but transmits fair bit of heat such that within 30 minutes lap is getting pretty toasty.

Laptop coolers are a waste of time and will only cool the outside of the laptop and not the internals. Yes it will help heat dissipate but no where near quick enough.

Is the laptop new or a few years old? If its a few years old I would say you are asking it to do to much and its time for an upgrade.

Hi 6 months old. Not really for cooling laptop, more for stopping leg from getting toasty. Very happy with laptop running at 50C, but too hot for legs!

i have had it for many a year and it seems to work well, but the crystals are a bit gone now but still keeps the knees cool

Thanks. Being able to fold it is appealing for portability.
Anyone know of something similar that's sold in NZ? That Thermapak product seems sold out in NZ.

Bit bullet and got the thermapak. Couple of days at a conference - plenty of laptop on knees time - worked well (pity postage was > 2x the item itself!)
