would like some recommendations for laptops not to big or chrome books,..for a high school student,needs to have good battery life... ty in advance..

Chrome bookmark awesome for 'all day battery life' on a budget. Laptops not so much unless you spend a larger amount.

Laptops are ultimately a lot more flexible as you can use a wider variety of software and devices.

What does the school recommend or want? They might be well set up for Chrimebooks for example. A lightly used secondhand Chromebook is highly likely to be every bit as good as a new one.

min requirements 2 gb ram 2gh processor 5ghz capable wireless.. 4 hrs min battery life...on the school website...was looking at a chrome book...quite liking look of Toshiba 2 chromebook thus far..

Been through this with my son. Pupils who turned up with anything less than a full OS quickly found they were limited in their use and was a pain in the rear for the teacher.

Check with the school what they support. I would default to a 'normal' laptop.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I personally use a Toshiba Chromebook 2 (1080p, 4gb ram version) and love it as a internet device, far more useful for me than a Tablet. I get on average 8hrs battery life with mine with a bucketload of tabs open.

If the school has Google Apps then yes, the Chromebook will be the best way to go. They're not as limited as people say since almost everything can be done on the internet. For example, I am able to do more advanced things like SSH/Mosh out to my servers, do some basic web work and also browse every website out there while watching Netflix, YouTube and Hulu without any problems. I find I rarely use my actual laptop now.

I would recommend something like an Asus T100. Relatively inexpensive, powerful enough for all schoolwork and good to relax with in tablet mode watching tv shows with.
