Hi team,

Buying a new laptop as our old one cant run Publisher very well.

Regarding processes, is this one suitable: "Up to 2.8Ghz AMD A6-9210 Processor"

How does it compare in Intels 1i3/i5/i7 processors?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Just buy Intel .
Unless you have a very good reason not to.

And get a laptop with a SDD, or have one fitted from the shop you buy from . Possibly more important than AMD/Intel choice .

And avoid anything thats under $400, because guaranteed it'll only have 32GB of space if youre lucky, which fills very quickly.

1) Get an SSD

2) its probably on par with an i3.

3) buy intel if possible.

AMD is getting better, especially with their launch of Ryzen. But that architecture has not come to the laptop market yet. So I would probably stick to an intel chip for a laptop. I do have an AMD A10-5630 or something, and its fine, but I also have an intel i7-4620Q in my other laptop and that is far more powerful.

Ideally looking for a laptop with good processor, 8gb ram and touch screen. No DVD drive required. For under $1000

Any recommendations?

I thought Id put my question here as it along the same lines

I'm looking at 2 dell laptops both about the same price $680

1st is Intel i3 4gb ram and 1tb hd and built in graphics

2nd is Amd a6 8gb ram and 128 ssd and r4 graphics

All other specs the same

This would be an entertainment laptop no gaming.

I've read most pick intel over amd for laptops

Most also say 256 or bigger for ssd, but I have a desktop, external drive and cloud for storage.

So probably what I'm asking does the extra ram and ssd drive make the amd machine a better option?

SSD makes a machine boot windows and start software much faster. If the machine is low on RAM (4GB or less) it makes the whole machine faster as the swap file is on the SSD instead of a slow spinning disk.

128GB is fine for a SSD for a general machine for email, web, that kind of thing. My PC has a 128GB SSD, of which only 50GB is used, and that's with a LOT of stuff installed - Office, Photoshop, Development tools, etc, but no games.

AMD CPUs are probably fine for general use machines as well. @dazhann If you put up a link to the machines you'll get more advice.

CPU Benchmark of that AMD CPU is 2000, which is 1/4 of what my 7 year old i7 2600k gets. A 7 year old i3 CPU gets 3600. However the AMD is about half as fast as my old i7 single threaded, so it's probably ok for general use. Complex web pages and multiple tabs might not be as fast as you'd like, but should be ok I think.

At my price point and needs the comparison should probably be against say Intel pentium n3710 or with the better ram and ssd to the i3 rather than against i5s and i7 which are on price, a totally different ball game and way more than I need. I'm also limited here in Hawkes Bay because other than Noels and Harvey, we don't have any physical computer stores to go to cash in hand.

The AMD should be fine. You only posted a link to one machine so I can't compare them.
