Hi guys,

Ive just brought a HP NX6320 Business dual core. Thinking about upgrading the hard drive to 120gb-200gb. Im trying to find out if my motherboard supports this but cant find any info on it. PLease help?

Good modern machine, should be fine with any size drive as long as its the right connection (SATA or IDE). Arm yourself with some Google searches - it appears the BIOS on this model may need updating first, or you may have trouble reinstalling XP.

How do i go about updating the BIOS? Is that just a simple download?

Not sure what u mean by right connection? Will my laptop only connect with a specific hard drive (sata or ide)?

How did you get on with upgrading the HP nx6320 hard drive? What did you end up doing?

You talked about a "it appears the BIOS on this model may need updating first" where did you get this information from?

My experience so far:

I'm trying upgrade my 80GB drive to 320GB. I copied the 80GB to the 320GB with Hard Disk Manager (3.5hrs) and then swapped drives.

The notebook started ok but then spat the dummy wanting to go through a recovery process.

I put the old drive back in again and restarted the notebook and again it spat the dummy wanting to go through recovery again.

By this time I was shuddering .. where are my recovery disks? ... then became did I ever make the recovery disks. Then I found them and tried recovering the drive; but it still wanted to go through recovery again. So I did a reinstall of xp from the recovery set (god bless them) and then started reinstalling applications.

I'm a bit scared to attach the 320 GB drive again and have it change the the bios settings so that I have to reinstall everything again.

Do you have any comments or recommendations about the the Bios settings on the nx 6320?

Hi,

I ended up not getting my NX6320, ended up upgrading my old nec versa m400. Its quite an old laptop but i had no problem installing a 120gb drive to it which was above the recommended 80gb drive, I didnt change the BIOS settings or anything. You should only change the BIOS unless you HAVE TO!

Once you install it into your laptop check your cmos settings press f1 on startup and check that your hard drive appears their. If it does then you should be ok from their, otherwise you may have to look into a BIOS update.

hmm if you did the recovery/reinstall ON THE 320GB drive you should've been in 7th heaven now ... i think!
