I am looking at buying a Xiaomi Notebook Pro as a new laptop for school and gaming on the go. It is a really good specced laptop for the price and seems to have really good reviews but because this is a Chinese laptop the only place in NZ to get it is online on aliexpress. I was wondering if anyone on here has purchased or know someone that has purchased a laptop from one of these sites and knows whether it is wise to buy one on there or not.

Depends on what you consider safe. If you have warranty issues you'll have to ship it back to the seller at your cost and then pay to have it shipped back to you etc.  Unlikely to be parts here at all since they aren't sold locally.  If you get one pay for proper tracked shipping and buy off a reputable seller on there - I think Xiaomi have their own store on Aliexpress.

I would only buy it from the official store... Would I have to pay extra customs fees for it at all?

If valued over $400NZD including freight then GST will be due.

I was in Beijing three weeks ago and visited a Mi Store (Xiaomi) in a mall.

The basically model themselves after Apple. Their laptops *looked* to be awesome on their build quality.

(I don't own one, but would give them serious consideration in a purchase decision)
