I've been chasing a niggling issue on a HP 4540S laptop. Every so often the battery is going flat and it is impossible to get the laptop to charge.
Initially I thought it was a problem with either the AC adapter plug or the laptop power socket. The problem seemed to be related to the way the adapter plug was positioned when inserted into the laptop socket, i.e. a faulty adapter plug or a faulty laptop socket.
Every time I check for power on the adapter plug there was the correct voltage present. In the end for about $6USD I bought and fitted a new power socket for the laptop. All went well for a week or so then the problem recurred. Some research indicated problems with the laptop power management could also be the the issue. I tried the fix for that but no luck.
I've been having another look today and whether or not power is delivered to the laptop sure seems to relate to how the adapter plug is positioned when it is inserted into the laptop power socket. This brings me back to my original diagnosis.
I'm happy to buy a new adapter but am reluctant to shell out the $125 only to find that's not the problem.
Does anyone on here have a HP Part No. 677777-003, or 693712-001, or 693713-001, 90W AC Adapter they could lend me to try? I'm in Hamilton so something nearby would be the ideal option.
Thanks for your help.
