Has anybody had any experience with buying from Dell outlets, they seem a good way to save a bit of money?

If so can you please recommend me an outlet?

I don't know that there are any in New Zealand? The Warehouse Stationery type retailer in Oz (OfficeWorks?) has them along with the the Dell kiosks in the shopping malls (I don't think you can actually buy them there though) among others.

I don't recall seeing them anywhere physically in NZ.

The Warehouse in NZ used to sell Dell but I don't know about these days..

You have to buy them from dell, same warrnety and all, all it is, is, pc?s which get returned to Dell, some have slight blemishes on them or customers have returned them without opening then packaging, so your getting the real thing. I have looked at delloutlet.nz but there have nothing, which is not surprising really, being a small country, but us and uk have quite a few.

Bought a desktop & laptop via dell's online store.
Not that much of a hassle if you don't need them instantly.

I got a laptop when in UK at an outlet.Was cheap and lasted for years.
I got one of graysonline.co.nz 1 year ago.Paid less than $1000 for inspiron 1520, intel core 2 duo 2.5 GHz,4G of RAM,15" lcd.I had to install all software.No warranty and one of the RAM sticks died.Apart from that going fine.

If you are asking which of the Dell Outlet stores to use (NZ, UK or US), you have to take into account other things. Ordering from the US or UK will incur substantial shipping costs (if they will ship to NZ at all). The US will be supplied with 110V power supplies. If it's a laptop, you could probably get a new 230V one from Dell NZ. If it's a desktop, then you'll have to replace the PSU. Whilst the UK one will have the right power supply 230V, you have to replace the power lead from the 3-pin one supplied. The other disadvantage is that the UK one will have a UK keyboard, and not the US keyboard we use here.

Before moving to NZ four years ago, I bought a Dell Inspiron 9100 'laptop' from the Dell outlet store in the UK. The particular one I managed to get came with a 3GHz P4 processor with 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, DVD Re-writer, Wireless card and full WUXGA resolution screen (1920x1200) and it cost me about 50% of the retail price. It was in mint condition and was supplied with everything in the box.

If you don't already know of the NZ outlet site, go to www.dell.co.nz/offers and click on the Desktops dropdown at the top of the page and select Dell Outlet Desktops. Because there is a smaller market, the choice isn't always great. It's all a case of hitting the site at the right time.

Thanks for the info, I have tried UK outlet, but they said no go on delivering to NZ, so thinking about getting a friend to buy one, but then I would have to pay VAT on it (G.S.T), which is something I was trying to avoid. NZ outlet is a bit of a joke, like you said hit or miss if there is anything on there.

VAT - Been there, had to do that :( but overall I got a bargain, and it's still going strong, although the DVD rewriter is a bit dodgy (but hardly ever used it).
