Hi guys,

I have been doing a bit of research on replacing my current laptop but not being too tech savvy I am a bit confused as to what sort of specs I should be looking for.

I have a budget of up to around $1,400 but don't want to spend more than I have to to get a laptop that suits my needs.

My main needs of the laptop are:

    • Be able to handle the latest version skype seamlessly as all my family live overseas and I spend a lot of time on it (I have TLC cable internet in Wellington). I presume I need a good processor, clock speed and graphics card? Are there also laptops that can run skype through your HD tv?

    • 1366x768 or above i.e HD

    • A good battery life would be preferable for entertaining my 4 year old on ryanair flights when visiting family.

Any info for a Noober-geek would be much appreciated,

Cheers
Simon

Dell Inspiron R15 are good mid-level machines. Don't expect super graphics performance at this range though.

everything new with dual core processor will meet your skype needs. perhaPS choose something with an intel 'core' processor.

if skype is all you want then perhaps find one with HD camera which is Skype HD ready?
