So for a while now, the keyboard on my laptop hasn't been working. If I let the laptop boot into Windows, I am able to use the trackpad and I can use the Fn+Fx keys to perform e.g. Sleep, Brightness, Volume etc so obviously something's working. If I press any other keys though the trackpad stops working and all the keys stop working.

That's OK, because now I just use it as a non portable laptop with a USB keyboard/mouse. It works fine, the only problem is that I can't get into the BIOS. It's not a big problem, but it's been a niggling issue with me for a while.

This morning, when I tried to boot, I got a Floppy Controller failure and a request to press F1 to resume which of course I can not do! Luckily, attempting a reboot worked and here I am. The laptop doesn't even have a floppy drive! I'd really prefer to set the BIOS to Halt on no errors or something, or at least disable the floppy controller but I can't without a working keyboard.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm loath to scrap the whole thing as it generally works fine, but now that it's starting to be a bit flakey maybe I should just quit while I'm ahead and start the transition process? Who knows when a simple FDC error will stop me being able to use it at all?

Anyone think that maybe buying a replacement keyboard would do the trick? Where would I even get one? Another guy I read with an ASUS with similar issues updated his BIOS and that fixed it which seems weird.
