I found the 13" screen a bit small vertically especially if they are the 16:9 widescreen layout. One of my requirements was also to have an in built optical drive. I bought a Dell Inspiron 14Z with a SSD and am very happy with it.  The only complaint I have is the glossy screen, I would prefer a matte screen.

Sure it's not quite as sleek as the 13" offerings from Acer etc but is still nice and slim and for me a good size screen, fast boot up, and reasonable battery life.  It fits nicely into a sleeve for carrying around.

My workmate picked up a Samsung series 9, the Matte screen (1600x900) looks brilliant, pretty quick wee pc.
That yogapad looks pretty impressive I must say, next few months for laptops, notebooks etc should be very interesting.

Something about the keyboard irks me on the 14z. It just looks a bit....budget. Otherwise quite a nice little laptop

I use the 14Z as my main computer just as I did my previous laptop and use a Bluetooth Logitech keyboard for most of the time, however I find the installed keyboard to be most satisfactory when I do use it, though I do appreciate it is a very personal thing.  Since Dell seem to sell mainly on line it was hard to see one in the flesh though I did manage to find one at JB HiFi here in Hamilton.

One other feature the 14Z has which is missing from many Ultrabooks is an Ethernet connection.

If you read the reviews you will see comments about issues with WiFi connections. I had one problem early on, it was caused by the pre-installed MacAfee anti virus.  There was an issue with one update to MacAfee. Other than this the WiFi connections have worked well.

Mainly for other reasons, I've since ditched MacAfee for Microsoft Security Essentials.

It really depends on what's important to you. Size and weight, battery life, ethernet port, means of playing video externally etc.

Take a look here for a quick comparison.  http://www.slashgear.com/dell-xps-13-ultrabook-versus-hp-folio-13-22219660/

Thanks dude. I think the consensus is that the XPS looks nice and has a nicer screen but the Folio is better in all other respects

I have a 13" Samsung Series 9, and it's a very nice little machine. Very pleased with the purchase, only had buyers remorse for an hour or two the day after.

I looked very closely at the Folio especially after Mauricio suggested it.  My reason for not purchasing it was the lack of an optical drive which I had to have plus I felt a 14" screen would also be better for me.  The Dell won on those two features alone.

Having used a couple of 13"devices since I could have probably lived with a 13"screen.

I think you would be very happy with the Folio.

I don't see how you could have buyers remorse with one of those.

It was the Samsung and the Acer Ultrabooks that started me off on the path of an Ultrabook.  They're nicely equipped, great looking and nice and thin.

Disappointing screens on basically all of them besides the ASUS one, screen has to be seen to be believed. Matte, IPS, 1080p.

Oh, it wasn't the notebook, just the financial bit.
