Not that you really get a choice. You buy the hardware and get the software platform that comes with it. You cannot put Win8 on RT devices and you cannot put RT on Win8 devices. I see that Flash installed on RT will only run on sites approved by Microsoft.

RT comes with a full version home/student edition of Office 2013 installed. H/s does not include Outlook. If you were going to buy h/s for only one device then the h/s saving might sway it towards RT.

RT can only run apps and drivers compiled for ARM - which is likely to cause you problems if you want to do anything more complex than use the browser or run the limited selection of ARM apps from the store.

If one needs Office it is often for editing, and a laptop makes more sense.

I haven't tried office on our tablet, but I have read it is hardly designed for touch usage, and I can't imagine using it without a keyboard - isn't Office a desktop app? (I find using the touch keyboard with desktop apps is frustrating).

Also often users of Office want to print... good luck installing your printer driver on RT.

On Windows RT, the Office 2013 installation runs inside the desktop. Yes it has a touch mode, that optimises its UI for pen/finger input. Yes personally a lot of the time I'm using Office 2013 it is for editing and I'd like to use a mouse/keyboard, at least with Windows I can just plug those things in and they work (or I fold back my Surface RT Touch Cover or Type Cover keyboard)

Printing is actually very good on Windows RT, there is excellent inbox support and there are also a bunch of vendors that make and are making available ARM drivers for their printers

But even out of the box, definitely a lot better integration there than I have ever seen on an iPad or Android tablet

Windows RT includes a class driver that enables printing directly to thousands of different printer models. See www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/winrt/CompatCenter/Home for more details. Note that some devices may require firmware updates to support this capability.

Windows RT will also support printing to network printers shared from a Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 print server through enhancements to the printer driver architecture implemented in those releases. Ok so after a significant amount of debate I have gone the windows 8 hp envy x2 route................ and already I am having doubts LOL
I started to install all the apps i had on my samsung tablet all was going well till i got to a sip phone and there seems very few iv'v ended up using the xlite thing which is way to small buttons for touch screen

othere than that we will see how we go
