Do not get the Vaio Pro. I don't know if Sony have dropped the ball or Win8 is crippling it, but it's my 3rd Vaio and without a doubt, the most dreadful.

I have one question on super high resolution screens ... won't all the words be so small I can't read anything? and the icons? and the videos you play on the web will be like 2 inches wide??? (ie on a web browser on my 1080p screen, if there is no option to click full screen I can't see anything)

also why are the brands so slow in coming up with high end haswell chips!

It is a little strange the lack of higher end machines with a Haswell CPU.

I picked up the non-touch version of this HP Envy 15 a few weeks ago and at $1500 its great bang for buck but its definitely a home entertainment build quality and not something you'd want on the road all the time.

That's a very good question. I've wondered that myself actually.

We got a 13" MBA, which I find an excellent device - non-retina resolution aside. I drafted up something for someone a few weeks ago who couldn't understand why I'd pay so much for a Mac when I could've purchased the same "type" of laptop/ultrabook for much less on Win 8. Curiously, at the time I couldn't find one Win 8 ultrabook with an apples-to-apples (pardon the pun) hardware comparison. Plus, the price we got the MBA for, was actually less than the cheapest Win 8 ultrabook with the closest specs.
The thing that struck me the most was how many Win 8 ultrabooks still had pre-Haswell cores. I think only the Acer S7 (at the time) had a Haswell core, but, hadn't been stocked (yet).

Hi res, small screens are traumatic. 1080 on 11" screen is unusable (well, at least for people my age)

I have a 13" Sony with a 1900x1200 res screen it's perfectly legible, super sharp (which I value) and I can fit lots of stuff on the screen.

Hi,

I recently imported a duo 13 from Sony Japan (through tenso.com, great service with usual Japanese efficiency). Specced a 256gb ssd and i7-4650 with hd5000 graphics which is better than you can get here (and in NZ). Came in at just over 1800aud which is almost a $1000 better than I could buy for anywhere else.
Duo is good. Tablet form takes some getting used to due to the widescreen but perfectly usable. Weight isn't terrible and easily handled in one hand. Pen helps a lot when using it as a tablet and my fat fingers can find it difficult when in desktop mode. In notebook form the keyboard takes some getting used to but don't notice it now.
Overall it is a great package and the pen is good for notes/annotations. Highly recommend!
