You were right, there is a windows sticker at the underneath of the laptop.

Thanks for the replies, been really helpful.
Just awaiting delivery of the new hard drive

Ive just installed a new hard drive ut still get the same boot error message.

Does the hard drive need need Windows loaded onto it before hand or something??

No, HDD always come blank.  You need to install the correct version of Windows on to it, or have it done, then enter the key that's on the machine.

Ah right, I wondered if that would be the case.

As I have no means of doing this I'm assuming I need to take it to a repair shop?

I think I might be able to get someone to download it to a CD / usb.

I'm not 100% sure which one I have tho. I believe it's 64bit, but the sticker says ' Windows 7 pro OA' .

How much RAM?  If it's 4Gb or more, definitely 64 bit.  But the license is same either way.

It means Windows 7 Professional.  You need to install the same edition.

Ring Toshiba. They may be able to send a recovery CD . They will charge for it though.
