lxsw20: They look like they will be a good secondary device for the guys at work that commute a bit and refuse to take their laptops due to the weight.

And you buy a Dock etc and then don't need a primary laptop.

Having owned a Surface RT and liked it, this could be a replacement for my frustrating Galaxy Tab S

Wade: In real world terms I wonder how close the 128GB version's performance will to an i3 SP3? I'm hoping it might be relatively close but with the benefits of  an atom's frugal power usage?

Will be interesting to see what the other manufacturers do with these new processors also

See my previous reply on performance.

Yes i was a bit slow in writing my post and yours and a few other posts were made :P

I'm onto my second Atom W8 tablet, they are brilliant, my current device (Stream 8) on paper should be a fail but works surprisingly well, the Surface by comparison should be a powerhouse and more than enough for the average 'mum & dad' user

Are the 128GB LTE versions likely to be ranged in NZ?

Think I'd go the full surface pro for that.

Looks like the Surface 3 comes with the standard version of Windows rather than Windows 8.1 Pro also.

I would be interested if the 4G wasn't a optional add on.

can you explain what that means?

Most devices that have mobile broadband normally also come in WiFi model which is default/cheaper

I meant built in by default, rather than a $100US add-on if you want it. No option I can see to add it here on MicrosoftStore anyway.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

It will be a different model not an add on.

how about if we raised the price and took away the option of WiFi only?

Is it the price that is the issue or that there are too many options/versions or?

sure thing Pro 3 would be better I think, I just don't understand really why anyone would want to procure using capex and then manage using opex 2 machines, 1 laptop and another travelling companion when those can be shrunk from 2 to 1

Surface 3 thru retail has Windows 8.1 (JB/Noel/Harvey) 2/64, 4/128

Surface 3 thru Commercial reseller has Windows 8.1 Pro (Spark/Laptop Company/Datacom/Acquire.co.nz/Cyclone) 4/64, 4/128 and probably a 2/32 low cost version for schools/students

no LTE for NZ at this stage.  I need to get some minimum order quantities to get that model in.  with the USB port you can use a modem, or WiFi tether to smartphone etc, or parallel import or buy another Windows product from an OEM that sells LTE here.

Personally I'd hotspot, but I know less computer savy people who need mobility and a 3G/LTE version would be very attractive for them.

Maybe the telcos would be more motivated to sell them here too

It seems pretty silly that the Surface 3 Dock is different to Surface Pro 3. I understand the one is using micro USB and the other is proprietary power connector. I would've thought it'd be a smarter decision to utilise just single dock station that's universal for both Surfaces.

Anyhow, Surface 3 sure is looking pretty neat however I'm more curious to see Intel Core M model of Surface 3 with USB-C port, or possibly Surface Pro 4, to contend for Macbook or Macbook Pro.

So does it run 8.1 PRO or just 8.1?
