It's over two years old and I'm very happy with it. My only complaint is the body flexes when I pick it up at the corners but that hasn't affected it's operation.
I wasn't looking at a Dell specifically. I bought it mainly because of it's form factor, being quite thin and that it still had a DVD drive. All other ultra thin computers didn't have a DVD drive.
I wanted something that didn't weight a ton, would slip into a sleeve in my work bag, and I needed to be able to read CDs/DVDs.
I'd by another Dell.

A flexing body is one of the best signs of a cheap/budget/consumer laptop. I can pickup my expensive ThinkPad by the corner of the lid or the body and it doesn't flex noticeably because it has a titanium frame. My cheap ThinkPad Edge is more like your Dell so I won't pick it up by the lid corner.
They do have two things over HP. 1) They generally bring more than a single part at a time when replacing faulty parts, 2) they use service tags which makes getting drivers easier. Other than that, I'd buy HP, or Lenovo first.
I'd agree with all the above. The one good thing about Dell is that its easy to find drivers on their website. Hp driver support, in comparison is awefull, they may list 6 different drivers for the same hardware (eg wifi), you have to try each 1 by one till you get the correct one. Its as is HP dont even know what hardware they put in their PC's/laptops HP phone support is good though.
Lenovo, for their 'next day' onsite warranty I had to wait 3 days, for a brand new PC , faulty out of the box. Not good if you arranged to deliver it to the customer the day after you ordered it . Try explaining to a customer why you cant deliver their new PC for another 3 days (& pray they dont cancel)
But back to Dell, in the past Ive had people bring in Dell's & ask me to organise the warranty for them(& pay me to do it), as they just got completely frustrated with Dells warranty support. Ive not had that with any other brand.
The Dell PC's & laptops actually are OK, they seem no better/worse than other brands in general from what Ive seen. In the past, Dell have been more likely to use non standard parts though. All the brands have some dud models .
